At best average, at worst, really bad experience.

I went to this place 3 years ago with friends and never went back until last week. ( I was hoping it had)

The quality of the food has not changed. The food was still very bad compared to 3 years ago.

The service leaves alot to be desired and the place is dingy. The waiter was not nice to us.

If you are taking a new 'girlfriend' to this place for a first date, forget about that second date. She probably won't go out with you again.

Not a good place for authentic Indian cuisine.

It was not a good experience for me or my friends. We did not enjoy the food at all.

The lamb was too hard and did not taste fresh. and neither did the other items in the buffet.

Not good value for what we had to pay.

You should go elsewhere if you are fussy about your food and have some minimum standards.

I am a big 'fan' of Indian food so when I went to Standard India, I had high expectations.

Unfortunately, my friends and I had a poor experience there. The food, specifically the chicken curry and lamb curry tasted stale and the dahl and paneer were also sub-par and the vegetables used did not taste fresh. I was very disappointed.

Also when my friend asked for a doggy bag for the left over Tandoori chicken that was part of our meal (which we paid for) she was very rudely treated and told not to take the chicken home for her dog. I have never seen such rude behavior. The service in Standard India restaurant is horrible.

If you like Indian food, I recommend you go to the restaurants in Devon instead of this awful place. Save yourself the agony and the experience of EXTREMELY mediocre food.

The other people who may have mistakenly posted good reviews probably don't have much experience with Indian food. I lived in India (Calcutta and Bangladesh) for 8 years and I know what good authentic Indian food is. Standard India Restaurant is not even standard, they have the worst Indian food I have ever tasted.

If you value your taste buds, go to any other Indian restaurant in Devon instead.

Have these other reviewers had good Indian food??

I don't want to complain too much, as the meal was only $11, but this place was just plain bad!! I'm really surprised by all the positive reviews. I have to assume that these people have not been to India House or anywhere near Devon. While I was not expecting Devon quality for an $11 buffet, I did expect better based on the reviews. I agree w/ the other post; how can you not have Chicken Tikka Masala, or even Butter Chicken on the weekday buffet??
As I mentioned $11 isn't bad for all you can eat Indian food, but be prepared for very sub par food. The Samosas were overly fried, and the naan was not cooked in a tandori oven, b/c it was dry, flat, and burnt.
This is a good place for those on a tight budget, but for those looking for quality, go elsewhere.

Only if you want delicious food

Honestly, this is the best Indian food I've ever had. So what, the buffet is 11 bucks, considering most Indian restaurants have a single entree priced starting at 13 dollars, I'd say this is a steal, absolute variety. They have an excellent array of warm, fresh dishes, salad, chutneys, and of course rice pudding and gulab jamun! Ridiculously delicious food, really sweet owners and servers. I'm moving in to the standard india.

not impressed

when I read the glowing reviews of this restaurant, I went in with high hopes, only to be disappointed. They went up on their dinner prices since last advertised- the buffet was over $10.00, which would still be fine if the quality of the food was halfway decent. I almost broke a tooth on the naan it was so stale and to my utter dismay, my favorite dish, chicken tikka masala is only served on weekends- wtf. The food was cold and greasy, and I will not be going back.

Very pleasent experience all the time, Food is outstanding, atmosphere is casual, great for big group, 23 items on buffet every day, heaven for VEGAN/VEGETARIAN customer, Most authentic Indian food, as I asked about Spinach, I was told by owner that it has green mustard and turnip green, which no other restaurant does, The only Indian restaurant that use boneless lamb,
Give a try, you will be glad you did

the door guy said they were voted the best indian food in Chicago - he and the staff must have been the only ones to vote. got my to go order which was 3$ more than on the menu, didn't get rice or anything with the order, essentially just a container of sauce. I won't get takeout from them again.

Incredibly rude staff ruined lunch
By funke from Lakeview, May 5, 2008

The food was average, but the lady at the register was incredibly rude and refused to honor our coupon which expires in a month. The charge for the buffet rose over $2.00 per person, yet they had not updated the sign outside the window or anywhere inside the restaurant until our bill came. She refused to change her price, even though the coupon listed the original price, and was very cold and rude to us. This buffet is not worth $11.00 per person.
