Mt. Everest Restaurant

We hosted a party in the party room. Sure, it was in the basement, but the food and the service made up for it. The food was fantastic and the servers were extremely polite.

We returned to Mt Everest because we liked the food, but our Mother's Day disaster will likely be our last climb to Mt Everest. We were jammed into our table for four, allowing waiters and customers to bash into any one of us in the chaotic scene that evening. We waited 30 minutes for appetizers, only to have totally wrong food delivered. Then 15 minutes later, the entirely wrong dinner order arrived. Then, 5 minutes later our waiter announced, without much chagrin, that he had lost our entire dinner order. Entrees began arriving, one at a time, 15 minutes later. Hey, this was Mother's Day. Hardly an apology, and no rose for the mother at our table, unlike the mothers at every other table. We were a patient family, and tried to keep the occasion honorable. When we asked for compensation, we were given a paltry 10% discount, less than an appetizer's cost. We saved another 20% when we left no tip. We also left knowing we would never return. We have encountered mistakes in the restaurant world, and we always appreciate good effort to remedy matters. At Mt Everest, we reached the summit of bad service and even worse efforts to repair a disastrous Mother's Day event.

Not only good for Evanston, this place ranks in my tops of Chicago. The minty tandoori chicken Hariyali Tikka is the best in the metro.

This is one of the best restaurants in Evanston -- I eat here several times a month, if not several times a week. The daily lunch buffet is consistently delicious and is an excellent value, especially for students on a budget. Their wait staff is attentive and friendly.
Report This ReviewMy wife and I have been eating at Mt. Everest 2-4 times a month since they opened a few years back up the street and have almost never had anything less than an enjoyable experience.
We love asian food of all kinds and it's hard to find a restaurant as consistently rewarding as this place; and relatively inexpensive, too!
Highly recommend any of the Nepalese dishes (which are lighter than the Indain fare). Their naan and roti (whole wheat bread) are superior. Other good choices: the vegetarian bhojan (meal for one), hariali tikka (chicken breast broiled with spices), and raita (yogurt sauce) which adds to any dish.
Report This ReviewWe've been going here at least once a month for the past year. The service and food have always been excellent. We vegetarians have an especially easy time finding really tasty dishes! (o:
Report This ReviewActually, they have NEPALESE entrees, not Tibetan. Perhaps that was why the prior reviewer was so disappointed ... But their Indian and Nepalese offerings are good. The chicken momo are a great appetizer you won't find on a typical Indian menu. As with most Indian restaurants, the service is slow and a bit aloof, but that's part of the experience of eating at an Indian restaurant. Otherwise, it's a greatplace to go when you want Indian food and are anywhere near downtown Evanston.
Report This ReviewFood is decent except for the Tibetan dishes. The restaurant claims to serve Tibetan food, which I went there for. I would warn others who might be thinking of going there for the same.
Report This ReviewMy friends and I did not have a good experience at this restaurant. Service was slow and uninterested. Food arrived after an extremely long wait and was, for the most part, cold. Decor was somewhat stark and the walls looked like they needed a good washing. Last, the dining room was freezing. Overall a poor dining experience.
Report This ReviewMy husband and I have eaten here several times and have brought others with us. It's been great every time, and no one we have taken here has ever thought differently. We like the Nepali menu items best, and always have the Momo chicken appetizer. Service is very good, and the noise level is low enough for civilized conversation. We live near Devon Ave. and have eaten in a number of Indian restaurants, but Mt. Everest beats them all.
