I will never go back again!

I will never go back to this restaurant, and you may want to think twice as well...

I took a group of 8 to this restaurant for dinner, and it totally ruined the evening

There were 3 huge issues
1) The service
2) Hygiene...read more below
3) The quality of the food

Service:
When we walked in at 6 pm, only 1 table was occupied out of apprx 25 ; we were put at the back of the restaurant near the kitchen even though I had asked to be seated elsewhere. Typically I would have walked out, but we had hungry people and so decided to stay

The owner, Hema, also knew about the issue but didn't fix it. The wait staff find it difficult to crack a smile

2) Hygiene: One of the entrees I ordered was a Chicken dish. Half way thru the dish, I had to pull a long strand of hair...yes...HAIR...out of my dish

3) Many of the entrees (both veg and non-veg) were crazy-spicy hot (I eat spicy Andhra Indian food..but this was over the top)...so hot that I could barely tell the difference between a lamb and a chicken dish! the veg dishes were overly salty

Net net, I will never go back to this restaurant again.

This was our 3rd visit to Hema's. We always wait for a VERY long time before the food arrives. We wanted to give it another chance. This time we ordered appetizers (for 6 ppl) but nothing came for 1 hour. Our meal started arriving when we told the waitress that we had ordered drinks and appetizers. She forgot. It was aweful. I am never going back to Hema's.

went to Hema's for dinner, sat at table for about
25 minutes with no one acknowleding us , I fhad to grab a waitress , her response when I said we would like tom order was"oh, do you want to order food?"

she took our order, about 30 minutes after that a cold greasy appetizer came out, no plates, no utensils, no napkins! t,
about 35 more minutes after that one of our dinners arrived cold and greasey , I went to Hema herself to complain of the awful service and was she told a server to get their food, eat and leave!
after not geting the rest of food and being there a this point about 2 1/2 hours we left!
never got our food!!
the wait staff was unfriendly, was the worst dining experience I have ever had.
would NEVER go back or reccomend!

I don't know about those one-star ratings...

...because I have never went wrong when I go to Hema's. I have tried other Indian restaurants on Devon, but nothing compares - I always end up back at Hema's. While the service isn't the most efficient (don't go too hungry because your stomach will be eating itself by the time the food comes), when the food comes it is fantastic. As a fan of spicy, I love the Chicken Vindaloo. And as a BYOB, you can't go wrong! Definitely give this place a try.

Worst Indian food I've ever had.

I have been eating Indian food for 20+ years and feel that I know good Indian food. By not having a Tandori oven, the food is not up to expectations. We had the Sag Lamb and Chicken. Both were unedible. The Lamb was so salty it made you squint. The sag chicken was so greasy it was unedible and was sent back. There is no naan and the bread that they have taste and feels like raw dough. The tandori chicken is brought in and can not be served as an entree. They appearantly have no white meat, as there was none in any of the dishes. The Tiki Masala was gease laden as well. This was the absolutely worst Indian food I've ever had. Perhaps I had the wrong expections. I thought that this would rank up there with Indian Garden, Tiffen, Viceroy, and Mohti Mahal, but it didn't even come close to Panda express. I've washed my hands 3 times already trying to get the grease off and have brushed my teath twice. If this tastes more like traditional Indian food, I'll take the Americanized Indian Garden or Tiffen any day. Zero stars .

what a great discovery

If you want excellent Indian /Pakastani food at great prices and a nice enviroment then I highy suggest you come to Hema's.It's a very small but wonderful place to eat and relax. The food was quite spicy for me(vegetable vinderloo) which is how I like it. My girlfriend orderd a non spicy dish which complimented what I had. The staff were friendly, courteous and the service was great. BYOB is a great way to bring what you want and also save money. I will highy recommend this restaurant to my friends and colleagues.

I love the food here but really, eating in can be a miserable experience. The service can be anywhere from mediocre to terrible. I recommend take out. The portions are bigger! Make sure you add on 15 mins or so to however long they say it will take or you will sit around waiting.

I went to this place when it first opened up and while it was a hole in the wall, the food was great and service was friendly but extreamly slow. I visit again this week, and the place is nicer looking, but the food taste and quility is not the same, even worse, the service is even slower and lackluster. You better have a good two hours to kill if you plan on visiting this place.

I just has probably the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. At 5p on a Saturday evening I walked into an empty restaurant. No customers, just wait staff. As things have been "gussied up" since I was last there, I rather sheepishly asked if it was possible to order food to go. I was told yes and given a menu. I decided on Vegetable Biryani at $9.99. I went up to where the wait staff were standing and placed my order. I asked if any bread came with. The waiter who appeared to be the maitre di very rudely said no. Another waiter asked if I wanted rice and the maitre di told him that I didn't. ??? I don't get it. This restaurant apparently didn't want my business for some reason. I wouldn't go back there if it was free. What happened to that great little place with the warm and welcoming people?

Three of us went on a Friday night. Did not have to wait for a table. shared some appetizers (samosas and a ground lamb appetizer) and ordered several lamb dishes... some breads and rice. Everything was exceptionally tasty and really delicious. It's BYOB too. Pleasant atmosphere but the attitude of the server was somewhat indiffrent.
Would definitely recommend it and go back. total incl T&T was less than 20.- pp.
