I love the concept of economical Indian food, but...

As an avid Indian food eater I was excited to learn of Chutney Joe's, but on trying it I thought it was just okay. I am vegetarian, which usually makes Indian food ideal for me. I had been craving Indian food, and I opted for my tried and true chana marsala and semosa combo. However, I found the semosa was not as good as it should have been and the chana marsala was a bit mushy. The chutney options were great, but sadly were the best part of the meal. Unless hard pressed, I won't be returning.

OK but nothing special

I had take-out from this place and was not impressed at all - the beef was just ok but had a very disturbing thick layer of oil on top, and the naan did not taste fresh at all (probably because it was sitting for a while before they served it). I'll try it again though, but suspect even the vegetarian entrees will not compare to regular Indian restaurants. Plus, it's not that cheap - for just a couple more dollars I can get a much better quality Indian meal that's fresh and tastes good - at the curry house down the street.

Affordable, Fantastic Flavor

I've been here three times and wonder why I don't go more often. The portions will really fill you up and the flavor is just awesome. I'm not an Indian food expert, but Chutney Joe's makes me want to explore Indian food more in depth so I can be as familiar with names of dishes as I would Asian or Mexican food.

Just what Chicago needed

I am Indian and love this new restaurant! I have complained so many times about the lack of affordable and fast Indian food. Usually the only choices are taxicab dive restaurants (where you seriously question the cleaniness of the place), driving north up to Devon, or going to a fancy Indian place in the city. The food was great, very authentic, and the restaurant itself has the feel of a Chipotle or Panera. This is definitely a place to check out!

I love lamb meet, and no where in chicago i could find such good Rogan josh. But Chutney Joe's did the trick. It was well done, and the juicy with the curry flavour. The owner was gracious to give us complimentary Samosa which was baked, so no oil - turned out to be a health and tasty experience. I highly recommend the Samosa, Rogan josh, Spinach paneer and the Aloo dish. Over all its a healthy option with good taste.

Chutney Joe's is great

Went to Chutney Joe's with some girlfriends for lunch and had a great experience. The owner stopped by our table to ask us questions about our experience and the food to help him finalize his menu. It seems like they really want to meet their customer's needs. The food was great and you can spice it up or cool it down based on several free chutney options. I would highly recommend this lunch spot to anyone.
