I have eaten Pakistani as well as Indian cuisine, and am not shy to foriegn food. We waited 10 minutes for our server, another 10 for our water, then another 10 for the appetizer soup, yet another 10 minutes for our drinks, food came even later, basically felt ignored. We thought we were getting steak skewers in contrast to the chili chicken and goat curry, instead we got flavorless grey overcooked mashed what used to be beef at some point, maybe 4 days ago. Our cute waitress spoke english yet answered all of our questions and requests with a blank stare and a smile instead of, call me crazy, answers. Worst dinning experience ive ever had, whole staff looked overworked and listless, food was great if only we could have gotten what we expected and wanted, of which we were then informed at the end of the night, by the graciouse owner, that they indeed not only had, but many varieties of, what we were looking for. Breads were amazing, the chai was great, we will never go there again or recommend it to someone else. Our experience was like walking in rudely on a strangers dinner party, unwelcomed and ignored.

I have tried many Indian/Pakistani restaurants on Devon since I moved to the area, and Chopal has become my favorite. Delicious entrees (jingga masala and mixed vegetables are wonderful) come with a plate full of rice and vegetables, chutneys, soup, and often a little dessert and tea. Your dinner tab will be half that of more popular places nearby. Warm dimmer lighting and soft South Asian music also makes this place a true gem among the many fluorescent-lit spots on Devon.

My best dining experience in Chicago hands down. Impeccable presentation, absolutely delicious and creative food and wonderful decor. All at an astoundingly low price. Never written a review for anything before -- but was moved to for this. My new place on Devon -- no contest. Bravo!
