My husband and I have eaten Indian food all over Chicago, from Devon to downtown and we agree that the Chicago Curry House is the best buffet in the city. The food is fresh, varied and delicious. Some Indian food tends to be on the oily side. Not at the Curry House. The food tastes pure, the flavors are distinct and the spices are perfect. The lunch buffet is $10.95 and worth every penny. The had a great selection of vegetarian and meat dishes, appetizers, soups with masala dosa and dessert. They also brought fresh naan out to the table. The service was great and the restaurant was beautiful. If you love Indian food don't miss this gem at State and 9th street!

Did the buffet for the second time and remembered why I came back. Food is wonderful, tasty, not too spicy and a great variety.
Wish they would turn down the phone ringer and take "take away" order outside of the main dinning area but otherwise it is the place to go for great Indian and Nepalese food.

I have been living in Chicago for the last few years - having moved here from London. Recently moved to the South loop neighbourhood and one of the things on my agenda after getting unpacked was to find a good Indian place. I couldn't have gotten luckier-as discovered that one of the best places in Chicago is right at my doorstep- Chicago curry house.
Ive been there several times now - mainly for the lunch buffet , which runs from 11 till 3 PM daily. My expectations were surpassed on almost every level. The service is great, the ambience is nice and the buffet is always clean and topped up with food. No scraping the trays here! There are something like 4-5 appetisers/starters to choose from - Samosas, chicken tandoori, pakoras, sambhar and dosa and soup.My favourites are the samosa and the pakora- both of which are perfectly done. The samosa here are clearly made on site and not fried straight out of the freezer- so far less oily.Every little helps when you're doing an Indian buffet!! Last time I went, there were around two dals, a paneer dish , mixed vegetable, aloo-baingan, pulao, goat curry, chicken butter masala and raita, salad and chutneys.Dessert choices were a halwa and kheer. All in all, quite a lot to choose from - specially on the vegetarian side. They change the menu slightly time to time- which makes it nice for regulars like me !The goat is on the bone- something that is prevalent in India and Nepal. Boneless is convenient, but hard to classify as being the real thing! They actually bring Nan to your table and provide attentive service i.e remove used plates quick, bring more nan, water etc.
I've lived for 7years in the East End of London, and several years in New Delhi - so I think I can say I know my Indian foods(if you want to get technical- North Indian would be more appropriate).Since being in Chicago, I've managed to check out a number of different places-inclduing the ones on Devon avenue. I think Chicago Curry house ranks among the best places I have been so far. The cooking here seems much more genuine then most places and the menu offers a number of nepali dishes. The staff and cooks are from Nepal- so I don't think it gets anymore authentic.
If you do like Indian food, you shold certainly try out this place. Highly recommended.
