I have no idea why a person of Indian descent would say that this place has the "best Indian food in Chicago" on tv (Check, Please). Every dish I had was a disappointment. I had the butter chicken, samosas, and the eggplant dish. The naan w/ red onion and green pepper was unique but not very tasty. To top it off,the service was horrible! In all, the place wasted my time and money. I'll stick with the other restaurants on Devon Ave.

This was my introduction to Indian food, but I keep coming back to this one as my all time favorite. Great atmosphere, and the friendly owner makes great suggestions if you aren't sure what to get.

I can excuse bad service if the food is very good. But, the food here would be fair, at best. My wife ordered the Chicken Masala. While the flavor was not bad, the portion was one small chicken leg and half of a chicken thigh - 2 small pieces with a bowl of sauce - for $12.00! I had the Palak Gosht. Again, a small bowl of mostly sauce with four small pieces of low-quality lamb/goat - for $14.00. Did I mention that a can of Diet Coke was $2.00? In addition to the tiny-portioned, fair fare, the service was atrocious. We begged to get menu recommendations, glasses of water and our check. We were seated on top of the register at a dirty table top. Others around us experienced the same bad service, as I could see and hear them complaining to Bhabi. Check Please's reputation is the only thing going for this place. Will not go back.

This is one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to. Like others on the reviews, I ordered the Chicken Marsala, which was three gross chicken bones with minimal meat, in sauce. My husband's lamb dish was about 4 pieces of meat. We spent $40 for a meal in which I had a few forkfuls of rice (which I had to ask for twice) and a few bites of chicken. The service is atrocious. The restaurant is not clean, and the table I was seated at was next to the cash register among 15 people waiting to be seated. I would most certainly not trust Check Please for any more restaurant recommendations. Shockingly terrible.

We went after seeing the great reviews on Check Please. We waited 30 mins for a table. Then had to wait another 20 mins b4 our order was taken. Service is unacceptably slow. Once we got the food, we were again disappointed. Bhabi recommended the fish curry, which was $12. What came out was a small bowl with about 5 small pieces of fish. I now completely understand why people say this place is overpriced for the amt of food you get. The taste was good, but not great. My friend got the butter chicken, again, at Bhabi's suggestion. What came out looked nothing like butter chicken. Instead of a creamy sauce, the butter chicken came in a watery sauce that lacked flavor. The chicken was not salted enough & the entire dish was lacking. I really wanted to like this place. But after the long wait, inattentive service, mediocre food, & high prices (for the amt of food), we won't be coming back.

This place is fantastic.
Get it before it's up in Bucktown.
Some of their sauces take nine hours to mature; plan accordingly.
If you appreciate 'Indian food' you will be a happy camper. If you want to be 'in and out' you will bored.
Any nan, butter chicken and the special eggplant are strong. I truly believe if it is on the menu it is worth ordering.
The staff knows exactly what goes into each dish. Ask and learn. Eat and be enlightened.

As regulars we feel its our need to represent! Bhabi's food is amazing. We eat there at least once a week, sometmes twice. However, we must be honest. The atmosphere is lacking to say the least. Everytime we have dined there it's been cold as a witch's teet. Not that cute as hell Bhabi didn't warm us up with the portable heatrers and yummy tea. Theres a random and mysteroius hole in the wall that begs for a fixin'. And at $10-$12 plates a pop we all know Mr. Syed can afford it. Anyway, since we covet the fare we have taken to ordering out and eating it in the comfort of our home (minus sub-zero temps and random wall art?). So, if you want to make Bhabi's part of your regular diet take it to go.

Bhabi's was a great experience. Everyone needs to realize that it is a very small operation, and your going to have to wait for your food. Bhabi talked with us for about a half hour throughout the meal and the food was outstanding. It's worth the hype!

Don't know what all the hype is about. Think Bhabi's getting too big for his britches. Food quality is just mediocre at best; and, since we sat where we could see thru kitchen door, looked like every dish was reheated in a microwave. Very Overprice; and, Very small portions. Much better Indian choices out there (e.g. Hema's; Udupi; or even Viceroy). Won't go back.

I went there last night, and I am still dreaming about it. The naan truly is out of this world - the garlic, onion, and green pepper is delicious. I had the mutter paneer and my companion had the chicken masala. We barely said a word throughout the meal because we were so enraptured by it. We also had the vegetable samosas, served with three different sauces which were all very tasty. The ambience is charming - intimate, dim, and casual. The service is friendly but not overpowering. I will definitely return to this little gem!
