What am I missing?

I don't understand the negative reviews. My brother is a chef and he is critical about everything we go out and eat. He's the one that introduced me here over two years ago. I go almost every other week when it's open since. While the girls aren't the friendliest of folks, if you've ever been there on a weekend night there's lines of people - I'm sure one gets tired scoop after scoop until 11 pm. When I've gone during the day, completely different attitude. What really matters is the gelato - and it's amazing. Go and find out. I personally like two mix fruit, like strawberry, with a little richness, like Pistachio. You can sample for free, so why not?

I have to agree with many of the reviewers here. The girls they staff this place with are absolutely horrible. I have to think they're related to the owner or something. I can't imagine anyone else paying them to treat their customers so badly. As for the gelato. I too have gotten gelato here on multiple occasions where it was nothing but a runny mess. I live 100 ft from the place and I'll never go again. I can't imagine anyone wasting their time to come here from afar.

I've been here three times and have never had bad service. Not especially friendly but not bad. I'd complain more about the prices - although you get a lot for your $. All the flavors I've tried have been fruity and they are always good. I've never seen them running low on anything either. I'll be back when it's warmer!

I have tried this place twice and each time it wasn't good. First go around,they were out of pretty much everything. Second, had all flavors-got choc. chip and coconut. They were awful, not authentic and tasteless. I've had better gelato out of the frozen section at Jewel-seriously! Not worth the wait and hype...

The gelato is good, but before you can even get to the counter to look at the gelato, the girls behind the counter are barking at you, "what size do you want?" No hello, no pleasantries. It kind of ruins the experience. Ladies, it won't kill you to show some enthusiasm.

The service here is really bad, and the gelato isn't worth putting up with it. I was served a sloppy cup of half liquid chocolate gelato on a hot day. When I took it back to ask for a different flavor, they said "that's what gelato is like". For someone who has eaten gelato every chance she could during visits to Italy, this was surprising information! I got the nocciolata instead, which was properly frozen, but cloyingly sweet with little hazelnut flavor. Not recommended.

The location is beautiful. Very authentic. Right down to the attitude behind the counter.

As soon as we walked in, they wanted to charge us for our cones. We hadn't even gotten a chance to see anything. Before i knew it, i had already paid for 4 cones of something.

We had walked in 10 minutes before closing, and if the two girls were so dead set on giving absolute horrible service, they should have just closed the doors early. I went back to buy the espresso and water that i also wanted. They asked me if it's for here or to go. i said 'for here'. (not knowing that they closed in 10 minutes). We sat down, i took a sip of my coffee, within a couple minutes, the other girl came around and asked "are you done?" and took my coffee away before i could answer. They finished up by pretty much kicking us out.

Don't listen to anybody that says that this gelato doesn't have much flavor. I was born and raised in Italy and I know what gelato tastes like. This one is AUTHENTIC. Who cares about the service. Go there and enjoy the best gelato in Chicago.

The best gelato in Chicago! We have always been searching for the most authentic Italian gelato in Chicago and this comes pretty close. The service is not great, but honestly, they are only scooping you some ice cream so it doesnt much matter. The gelato is definitely worth it! (try the pistachio)
