The Epicurean Hungarian Restaurant

Went there a few weeks ago looking for chicken paprikash and it hit a home run, my wife
said it was like her childhood memories.
I had the stuffed cabbage out of this world, lots of food, friendly people.
FYI...they currently are without a liquor license (did not know this) so it is BYO for now,
found a liquor store about a mile away and everything worked out. If you like stick to your ribs food and good prices this is the place.

We dined on a cold monday night and while the food was outstanding, it was the warmth of our host that really made it a great dining experience. excellent cuisine, beautifully decorated, and attentive service make this a repeater for some time. A great break from the west suburban Czech circuit.

We came on a Thursday night, and we had high expectations, being former fans of Paprikash. Epicurean did not disappoint! We tried the buffet ($15). I usually avoid buffets like the plague, but Epicurean's was surprisingly excellent. The trays of food are small, and thus refilled quite regularly. We tried a whole range of refreshing salads as well as heartier dishes like schnitzel, chicken paprikash and duck confit. All were very well done and well-varied in flavor and texture. We also love the Hungarian wine list. Where else can you get a Hungarian cabernet franc or merlot? I think next time we'll come back on a weekend for the gypsy music.
It's definitely worth going out of your way for - the food is really great, authentic, and a great value.

The food is simple, hand-made, authentic cooked with pride. The mushroom soup, home made garlic bread (a bit like naan), noodles and crepes are outstanding.
The service is friendly and attentive.
The music, especially the cimbali, was very interesting, beautiful and not overbearing. The art and artifacts from Hungary beckon you to look around the restaurant.
The only thing I did not like was being seated in a section that was too bright (they need to dim the lights there just a little).

After brief consideration and some Internet exploration I decided to visit the only one Hungarian Restaurant in Illinois ' The Epicurean'. At the beginning I was very sceptical ( I am not a big fun of the Central European food). But this restaurant really makes you feel that you are in a different world. The woody interior full of tradicional Hungarian antiques creates magnificient atmosphere. Delicious, homemade food and outstanding service make you feel like at home. Live music and a glass of Tokay at the end of my dinner makes the meal unforgetable!! I strongly recommend this restaurant!!!

Went for the first time on 06/13/08, and had dinner with the family. My wife's grandmother was 100% a Hungarian, and this brings back memories of the terrific food when we were dating, and would go to holiday parties! Everything appeared to be hand-made, down to the whip cream on the desert. Wonderful flavors, excellent service, we will be back, even though its about 20 miles from our home! We had dinner, there was a buffet, and it appeared to be of very high quality as well, so next time we will try the buffet!

We took our parents for their anniversary. This was our first time there and we had a great time. The food was absolutelly delicious. The potato pancakes were out of this world. My 7 year old who is an extremely picky eater loved the garlic bread and the chicken noodle soup. The restaurant is beautiful and the service was extraordinary. Everyone there was extremely attentive. Our waiter made us feel like we were old friends. We cannot wait to go back. I strongly recommend this restaurant.

I was there for the first time for the Sunday lunch buffet last week. I found it very nice. The food was good hearty Hungarian, with some spicy items such as three forms of goulash, but they also had some simpler meat-and-potatoes fare for less adventurous diners. The salads and desserts on the buffet were all very good. It's a good bargain if you come with an appetite.
