Clearly you need a stiff drink to enjoy a meal at the Ceres Cafe! I unfortunately only had a glass of wine and it was not enough to dull the pain of an over priced sandwich, slow service, and a rude waitress. I work across the street and after reading so many good reviews, I thought the Ceres Cafe would serve a good lunch. I was wrong. Perhaps this place does have a great happy hour, but I will never find out because I will never go back.

This is my favorite after work bar. If you go here don't order a beer you will just be wasting your money, you have to order a mixed drink. When they bring you your drink it will be a cup full of liquor with the smallest amount of pop and they will bring you the can of pop on the side for an extra dollar. A rum and coke costs 5 dollars but its actually about 3 shots in one drink. The food is really good too, i have been there for lunch. The servers and hostess are always very nice. Great outdoor seating in the summertime.

Hands down, the greatest place in the world to have a serious post-work cocktail. If you order a whiskey and coke, you get a giant glass of whiskey, and a can of coke. It can't be beat.

Its funny how many comments are about the stif drinks at Ceres. They must have all had Alex as a bartender. Go see El Diablo aka Alex for the best drinks in Chicago.
Report This ReviewCeres is my all-time favorite bar. Their mixed drinks are the strongest in town. In the summer, you can't beat the outside patio. It can be very crowded around 5:00, especially on a Friday, but usually starts to die down around 7:30. It's also a good place for lunch. Give it a try sometime.
Report This ReviewDefinately the best place for drinking in Chicago that I have been too. If you like stiff drinks, this is the place for you. Drinks seem expensive at first, but once you see what you get, it is WELL worth it.
Report This ReviewThe food here is good, with a wide range of choices. However, the real reason to come here is for the stiffest drinks in Chicago! Order a Screwdriver here and it'll be mostly clear with a slight orange tint. They have a nice patio in the summer. Definately a Chicago classic!
