I really don't understand the 5 stars on all the other reviews. For sure the menu is interesting and some of dishes are 5 star. the lentil salad we ordered as an app was OUTSTANDING! But the sea bass size was 1) paltry and 2) the taste and flavoring was "Meh". below average. We also got the duck which was also a small serving and average in taste and preparation. The lamb was absolutely delicious. I guess the oldie holds true Greek and lamb! Service was spotty. we ordered a bottle of wine right off that was forgotten and had to wave down our wait person. The restaurant has very nice ambiance and decor.

This is a wonderful restaurant--such fresh ingredients. Greek food as in Greece, not Greektown!

What a great new restaurant in the neighborhood! This is not your typical Greek restaurant with flaming cheese and gyros. I thought the menu was really unique, hot and cold small plates, and a few large plates. I have never ordered okra at a restaurant, but the appetizer was delicious. We also had olives and the vegetarian phyllo tart for appetizers, and duck and chicken for dinner. The restaurant itself is very warm and inviting, with lanterns hung throughout. My only complaint was that the kitchen seemed a bit backed up, and it took a while for our appetizers to come out. This is a wonderful restaurant to try something new!

My hubby & I checked this place out Friday night. We were thinking of waiting until their recipe expanded, as the summary mentions, but with all the great reviews we figured we'd go ahead and try it. It was excellent - you'd think the menu was complete as it is. Their wine was great and well-priced. I got the fish and my husband got the lamb shank. Both were delicious. We'll definitely be back!

i was so excited for taxim to finally open after hearing all the buzz about it. from one foodie to another, this place has already made it into my top favorites for dining out. creative, addictive flavor combinations, congenial service, and a beautiful, warm setting to enjoy an evening out.
the quality and freshness of the ingredients came out in all the dishes we tried. everything was excellent from start to finish. we began our meal with the meze of peppers. the dish was spot on, simply delicious with a really nice finishing kick. the eggplant with homemade yogurt was also a favorite at our table. we paired the whole fish with a bottle of rose from greece. we never tried this wine before and what a lovely surprise. it went perfectly with the whole fish from crete. our meal ended with the kumquat dessert--heavenly!
taxim is a real treasure in the neighborhood--definitely plan to be a regular at this place and look forward to my next visit soon!

We just got back from our dinner at Taxim and loved it! I have never written a review but felt compelled to do so. After having been in Greece before, it was a welcome menu compared to other Greek restaurants here in Chicago...something we have been hoping to find in the city and am even more excited it is in our neighborhood! We shared the salad and then I had the phyllo appetizer and my husband had the lamb, both were delicious. We shared the yogurt dessert and it felt like we were back in Greece! The wine list and dessert drinks also made us feel like we were there....now we just need the weather to be warmer and the rooftop to be open. Everyone there was very accomodating and helpful, David the owner was great!

I had dinner at Taxim Friday night with a small group. This new restaurant was an amazing experience. Our server was excellent and very knowledgable about wine. After trying some small plates we let the Chef David take the lead and course our the rest of our meal. The peppers and eggplant dish we tried were spot on. Everything was delicious and flavorful. It is a great place for a date night or dinner with a group of friends. We will be back and can't wait to see taxim evolve!

I am not a person that usually writes reviews, merely a reader, but I really wanted to give my take on this new greek find. After peeking in the windows for a long time, I was very anxious to try this restaurant, especially when I heard it was not going to be another mexican or fancy burger place.
The inside of this place is reason enough to go - stunning lighting and copper tables. It has a warm feeling without being too much. I really can't compare it anything else in the area. The food was amazing - I don't even have greek food very often but it was delicious! I was almost setting this place up for disaster by ordering the duck gyros because duck is either perfect or horrible - but it was not greasy at all and full of flavor.
My friend and I have an anniversary dinner coming up and can totally see us going here to celebrate.

I had the opportunity to dine at Taxim on Milwaukee. I was quite impressed by the light fixtures that cast lovely patterned silhouettes on the ceiling. The copper table tops were a great departure from most other restaurants I have eaten at. I ordered the fish for dinner and miy partner ordered chicken. I was quite impressed by the moistness of the fish and that it was served whole at the table and boned for me. My partner's chicken was served with beautiful potatoes and was a true comfort food for a rainy night. The accompanying wine was from Greece and we split a dessert as the portions are large. The house made yoghurt with preserved fruit was the perfect ending to our meal. The restaurant is intimate enough for private dining yet can accomodate a large party easily. I definitely will return, it is a true gem.
