Taxim (pronounced tak-SEEM) specializes in Greek fare, but don't expect Greektown cliches like flaming saganaki from this Wicker Park spot. To create the menu, owner David Schneider drew on his Greek heritage and travels throughout the Eastern Mediterranean. Though offerings change with the seasons, expect dishes such as duck gyros with pomegranate glaze, fresh mint and walnut-yogurt mousse; faki (green lentil soup); and yemista me pligouri (baby zucchini and eggplant stuffed with minced goat). Taxim's elaborate interior features a dramatic archway and ornate flourishes throughout, including Byzantine-style light fixtures and an intricate carved plaster ceiling. The front of the restaurant, which serves coffee, light breakfast items, mezethes (small plates) and sweets such as baklava during the day, has more of a cafe vibe, with copper tables and woven stools. Outdoor seating along Milwaukee Avenue provides a great perch for people watching.
