Excellent Greek Food, great atmosphere
By nighthawk from Des Plaines, September 6, 2009

This is a great place. I have been here twice and both times sat outside. It is a great atmosphere to enjoy some of the best Greek food in the city. The outdoor area is decorated lovely with a waterfall, flower and Grecian ambiance.

For an appetizer, we had the the dolmadaki, grape leaves with rice and seasoning. For an entree, I had Patitsio, similar to Lasagna but with its own flavors. Portion was huge and cooked perfectly. My friend had Chicken Breast Liminoti and loved it. One note, reservations, are not taken for the outside dining area so it may be a good idea to arrive early on a nice day. Enjoy!

Terrible food topped with terrible service
By swarnack from Loop, August 17, 2009

While the outside patio does offer some ambiance, it can no way make up for the fact that this has to be one of the worst Greek restaurants in the city. Let's start with the appetizer, which came in about 5 minutes and tells me that they are not "made to order", rather heated in the microwave. The spanakopita is so bitter because it most likely is made with frozen spinach, you can barely swallow it. The Saganaki cannot be lit on the patio, so needless to say it was cold...not a good thing for flaming cheese. The main course is over-priced and most times under cooked or over-cooked, there is no happy medium here. And to top off a bad meal, the wait staff is so rude, they actually have the nerve to tell you that they "prefer their tips in cash"...as if to assume they deserve a tip after they have been unfriendly and arrogant. Save your money because this is no way real Greek cuisine.

The Best Greek Food In Greek Town
By LechónMobile from Near West Side, August 8, 2008

I have been to almost all of the restaurants in Greek Town and like this place the best. It is very lively and the food is always top notch. I love the Taramosalata it's a creamy caviar dip that I have to keep at arms length or I will pound it down before anyone else gets any. Great for a date or a family gathering. Their gyros are second to none and the traditional muse for the creation of fast food gyros which pales in comparison.

Great Food
By Chicago Diner from Humboldt Park , July 6, 2008

Athena is an excellent spot for dinner and lunch. The service for the most part is excellent (I have only had bad service once). The outside patio is an ideal spot for the summer dinner with friends and family.

The price is right and the food is great. I used to frequent the other spots in Greek town but this place has captured my taste buds. OPA!

A good place to try

This is a very interesting place to say the least. I went here for lunch with a small group and was immediately surprised at the level of service received. The Valet was free for lunch and the wait was about 10 seconds total. The driver was polite and professional. At my immediate entry, the host greeted very politely and was dressed in attire that made you feel like you were in a five star kind of place. The host was very accommodating and made us feel right at home. While I waited, I was given an opportunity to look around and found that this place stands out because it feels very warm and the bar is decorated such that it flows well with the restaurant. When all the guests arrived in my party, we were immediately sat and bread and butter hit the table without having to ask for it. The server made his way to the table and was also extremely polite. The service overall was outstanding. The menu offered plenty of authentic Greek dishes and the noise level in the restaurant was comfortable enough to be able to carry a normal conversation. Every once in a while you heard an “ooppah!” and people looked like they were just having a grand time. The food is truly delicious and fast. No wait here. I have not tried this place for dinner but Lunch was great. Wonderful service, food, ambiance and fair pricing. I highly recommend this place.

The Perfect Greek Experience!
By blueyes37 from Chicago, November 10, 2007

Athena is my favorite Greek dining destination. Whether you're there with date next to the wood burning fire, having dinner with family or friends, stopping by for drinks and appetizers after a game (or before a night out on the town), or there to relax out on the beautiful outdoor patio with a glass of their finest Greek wine, Athena provides satisfaction from start to finish. They offer a courtesy valet service, deliciously prepared food served by a friendly and helpful staff, all nestled in an elegant Greek themed atmosphere. I recommend Athena for any and everyone!

Athena is great for the summer. Always have had wonderful food and the outdoor patio is the best in the city. The service isn't always ideal---they seem to have lost some of their regular waitstaff. Still, it's worth it.

The best restaurant in Greektown. A wonderful location for a summer business lunch is the outdoor patio that has a great view of the skyline. The food is top-notch and the service swift but unobtrusive.
