Love this place. The bartenders and servers are awesome...special props to TC. The menu is well priced and the food is abundant and flavorful. Have had a great experience every time I've been in. The atmosphere is well appointed. A perfect place for an after-work drink or to bring a date. Can't wait for the outdoor patio to open. This is my new favorite spot on the north side.

I Love this place and the people in this place

I went to this restuarant on Wednesday. The tapas menu was buy one get one. Me and my guest tried 6 of the tapas on the menu. Saganaki, Spanish Bruchetta, Greek Village Meatballs, Spanakopita, and Stuffed Calamari. EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING! My server/ Bartender, "Bri" made me and my guest some surprisingly tasty Blueberry Martini's. Not only were the food and drinks good but so was our service. Angelo has a great relationship with his employees and you can tell by the way he interacts with his servers. It's almost like he works for them. Bri (the server/ bartender) requested a fresh bottle of something and Angelo (the owner) said what ever makes you smile "Miss America"! Then he brought her her new bottle. You can tell that the reason why the service is so good in this place is because the employees like what they're doing and who they're doing it for. I would definitely return to Angelo's Taverna. Everything was good and everyone was nice and because it was buy one get one day the bill was less than $100

Not as Bad as some say

For months I would pass this place on my way to and from work. I never stopped in but, the other day my girlfriend and I came in. I had read the stuff from other people that wrote about this place. I have to start that it is not as bad as people say.

The night that I was there they had the speacial of 1/2 off bottles of wine with your meal. Our sever, Dave, suggested a bottle of a greek white wine. He even brought out a taste to make sure we liked it. We started with the risoto rice ball, that were stuffed with some kind of cheese, they were taisty. my girlfriend had the Chicken Parm and I had the Broiled Salmon. Both were quite deliciouse. We split the Tiramisu for dessert and were very happy with our experience.

I think that this place has the opportunity to being a really good date place for anyone wanting to not go to far from home. I would deffenenetly give it a try. Everything from service to food were exactly where they were suppose to be. We even had bread, but with all the food that came out, there was no room in our stomichs to eat it all.

Knock knock

One of the Worst...

I have only written 2 negative metromix reviews over the past 5 years of being an avid metromixer. One because I'm generally a pretty positive person when it comes to restaurants and two because every restaurant has off nights. Went to Angelo's last night for the first time and had one or the worst experiences of my life. Upon attempting to order we were notified that one of the dishes was out for the night. Not a huge deal but generally when a server drops off the menu or takes a drink order its fairly typical to say, "by the way... we don't have XXX tonight". Also, we ordered one dish that it wasn't until 20 minutes after ordering that our server notified us that they did not have that dish either. She suggested and alternative which we agreed to and she told us it would be on the house. So we ordered a salad, sagnaki, greek meatballs, stuffed calamari (replacement dish). It took about 30 minutes from the time we ordered to the time any food came. First was the sagnaki (delivered before any silverware) which was good although it is difficult to screw up fried cheese. However, they did not have bread ready when they brought it so we were stuck trying to eat cheese without any adequate bread. Apparantly the kitchen was slammed and couldn't get the breadsticks out quick enough. Of course the table next to us which sat down well after us had ample bread as they clearly knew the owner. I watched this bread shortage effect many other patrons as well. Next we had a salad which was very simple and ok. We also had the greek meatballs which according to the menu were "100% beef". They came out extremely undeseasoned (bland), raw in the middle and greasy (out of the fryer). We asked about the raw in the middle and our server told us that is typical of lamb meatballs. We showed her the menu that said 100% beef and she seemed a little surprised and said they did have lamb. Luckily we were both ok with lamb. Lastly we tried the stuffed calamari which came out cold and was just not very good. A second glass of wine took about 15 minutes to get delivered. Overall we ate about a quarter of the food brought to us. Our server did apologize about everything, however, when she brought the bill nothing was comped. She said she asked the owner and he told her that he would not comp it. I could tell other tables around us were having similar problems of a delay in food, no margaritas tonight, other things not on the menu, no bread, etc... Unbelievable that a place like this can survive in a city with so many good restaurants. Its too bad because its in a nice space. Avoid this like the plague.

Great Place for Food and Drinks
By Ronald Johnson from Old Town, May 21, 2008

I found this place last week when I moved into this neighborhood from Lincoln Park. Its so far my favorite neighborhood bar. I have sat outside on the patio during one of the nicer days out and returned later in the week for some post-work drinks. Both times we had the same server, Chris, who was a delight. We wanted for nothing and the knowledge he had about the food and wine (and whiskey) helped ensure that we get exactly what we wanted. The Saganaki was great, and so was the two entrees I have had: The Spinach manicotti and the Pasta Rags with chicken. In any case, I have decided to make this my new bar, when time allows, and to bring people here whenever I get the chance. If you havent had it yet, stop by today. Especially when the weather gets nice, the patio is the place to be!

Great place we had a lot of fun

The food and service is great! The quality is first rate with inexpensive pricing. The place is never crowded which makes for a more family friendly atmosphere. If you go try the wine flights or the Sangria, both are great options

One of the WORST in CHICAGO!
By ginni27 from Lincoln Park, February 11, 2008

I went here on Friday night expecting good food, a good atmsophere, and fantastic sangria. Based on the other reviews, that's exactly what I should have received. Unfortunately, that was most certainly not the case. We started out with a pitcher of sangria (which we later saw to be a blend of juice, brandy, and vodka) which was mediocre- it tasted more like a fruity margarita than traditional sangria. We ordered the grilled calamari which was so tough that each piece took about a minute to chew through. Second, we got the steak from the Italian portion of the menu... The over-cooked trend seemed to target this as well for the quarter in. pieces were tasteless and well-cooked to a thorough gray color. We then tried our luck at the spicy potatoes...which low and behold had no spicy elements and seemed like boiled russets with tomato sauce. I was most disappointed with this meal and will NEVER go back. I have never eaten some place where I felt compelled to write such a review. Again, WORST in Chicago!!!
