Best of the Best

This is probably the best sushi I have ever experienced. The place was virtually empty, but the staff was friendly and on top of their game. It was a while ago, so I don't' remember what we got, but everything was wonderful.

Took a chance

My husband and I usually stick to our favorite few sushi spots but noticed that we'd get points here on our miles program - so we went for it. Everything was absolutely delicious - no complaints. The sashimi was 'melt in your mouth' worthy, and we ordered several different rolls and loved them all. The service was quick, and friendly. Our edamame was forgotton but halfway through the meal i was glad we didn't have it - I was able to squeeze the last few bites with pride. Great atmosphere and a great date-night spot. I'd venture to say, we liked it better than Coast.

Beautiful spot, solid sushi
By Lola Chicago from Bucktown/Wicker Park, December 9, 2007

This is solid sushi restaurant closer to West Town or for those of us on the east side of Wicker Park. I must say that I have been going there for three years and they still don't ever cut us a break, no little extras, no deals. Even a little tiny side of spicy mayo costs two dollars, but the food is really good, the rolls and fish are always delicious. Also the beef udon soup is fantastic.

My girlfriend and I tried Usagi Ya on Friday. The food was great. We tried a couple of the Sushi specials and the Mango Shrimp. The space was very cool too.

I can't believe the negative...

I can't believe the negative reviews of this place. I will admit that the servers don't always know sushi as well as I do, but the food is fantastic. The Maki rolls are extremely creative and well executed. The drinks are delicious, and the Francis (the owner) is very accomadating. It is by far the best sushi in the Wicker Park area.

I'm a regular here and being a sushi connaisseur I can say the maki rolls are quite good here; despite what the other posts seem to think... servers used to be better but with all the new help they still need more practice (our server forgot the names of some of the rolls we ordered & tried to mumble out of it) however we're always warmly greeting arriving and departing. Value for the $ is average. Anybody who enjoys trying new sushi places should definately add it to the circuit.

I had a sashimi platter...
By kitty from Wood Dale, Il, January 12, 2007

I had a sashimi platter entree which is very small and it didn't even come with a bowl of rice. If you order that dish, you should expect to order more dish to fill you up. The rolls were just ok too. The soft shell crab roll and the shrimp tempura inside the Dragon roll were served cold and not crispy.

This was my third time here. The food and the service has always been great! I don't know what this last person is talking about..maybe she has a personal issue and feels like she needs to take it out on something or someone else. I will definately be a long-time customer...her loss.

the food was pretty good...
By sabrina from Chicago, IL, December 2, 2006

the food was pretty good (though not excellent). our waitress decided to not write down any of our orders, and instead left the table saying to herself "i think i can remember that." needless to say, she didn't. one of our dishes never came. the others came out at random times (the appetizers too late, the entrees too early). the price is just okay. i guess the atmosphere is supposed to be really cool, but no one was even there, and we still got crappy service.
