Decent Food, Bad Service
By Reality Check from Ravenswood, May 8, 2008

This is the second time I've gone for lunch. Once with a larger group, and another time with just two. The service was very slow and unattentive both times. Was there for 30 minutes before the server came by to take our order. Lunch ended up over 1.5 hours both times. There were several couples who came in after us, who had the food delivered before ours. The waiter was not attentive. We asked for drinks and appetizers, which both took a while to bring to the table.

If you want service, dont bother. The food, however, is decent, but Wow Bao is really good, cheaper and has good food as well :)

Great Salad but Service Poor

We went there for lunch. 3 of us and ordered a salad, thinking it would be quick. We waited for our salads for 45 mins and it came out without salad dressing. The beef salad was phenomenal and the tuna salads was great!
We had to take 1.5 hour lunch. I would return only if the service improves.

best food in the city

I have been to Shikago twice and both times the food has been excellent. Bold, clean art acts as a backdrop for the creative menu selection. Some of the dishes I had tried were the tuna tartare, scallops, pork jowl, striped bass and the duck breast/confit. Each dish had a beautiful presentation and the flavors were gorgeous. Service was competent and warm.

Shikago is a great place...

Shikago is a great place to go if you want fantastic food in a great atmosphere. I went for a late lunch and found the food to be inventive, light and very vegetarian-friendly. I can honestly say that every dish I had was properly seasoned- a rarity in my many dining experiences. I love the atmosphere as well. The bar and all the tables are made from one tree that was cut down by city services instead of from a farm or forest. Each table has a unique, natural look that perfectly compliments the simple, modern decor. The desserts at Shikago are worth the trip alone. I had a fantasticly fudgey brownie with a light passionfruit sorbet that rounded out an overall excellent meal. For a few dollars more than Corner Bakery I will take the food at Shikago any day. I will definitely be back!

I have been to Shikago 3 times for the take out Bento Boxes and loved them. My fiance and I decided to try them for dinner on a Wednesday. The place was about half full and we got to sit down right away. From start to finish everything was perfect. From our wine selection that "Noel" recommended to our main course "bulgogi-marinated ribeye" to the desert...we could not have been more impressed. We even got a personal tour of their private dining area "the library" and have decided to have our wedding reception there. The entrees are a bit pricey but it's what you would expect in the Loop. I will be back!!!!

Overpriced and underwhelming! I've eaten...

Overpriced and underwhelming! I've eaten here twice, once in the dining room and once in the front take out area. Lunch in the dining room is decent, but expensive. I had the duck, which was delicious, but the sauce was fairly strong and the dish could've used something to balance it out like plain rice or more noodles. The music was also fairly loud for a lunch meeting. On my second trip there, I was excited about trying the take out. Their menu offered ramen, but they didn't have it available. So I decided on the beef pho. I'm sorry to say that this may be the worst pho I've ever had in my life. The broth is tasteless and the noodles were scant. I would give this place one last chance since the noodle salads looked good. If anyone is seeking a good bowl of ramen, I highly recommend Noodles by Takashi Yagihashi on the seventh floor of Macy's on State.

Waiter was a bit slow...

Waiter was a bit slow and not very attentive. The food was simply average, and the entree prices were a few dollars more than expected for lunch. Portions are quite small for the price.

Although I really liked my entree, this restaurant was a disappointment from start to finish. We wandered in after reading the menu posted out front, intrigued by the offerings and the prices. Turns out we were looking at the lunch menu (not printed anywhere). Although both entrees (lamb and halibut) were good, the portions were quite small, and we really felt duped. From the drinks (stingy pour for wine by the glass, $14 well margarita) to the apps to the main course, Shikago does not offer good value for the prices.

I hope there's still time to fix this.
