LOVED IT!

Everything I saw on the menu was $8.50 or less.

Portion size was awesome, well over what I was expecting.

AND THEY DON'T OVER COOK THEIR TOFU!!!!!!!!! We got the tofu appitizer and it was perfect. Nice crispy seared outside, yummy warm creamy inside.

Walked past the kitchen on the way to the bathroom, and both were impeccably clean which always makes my a happy panda.

The chili condiments on the table were super flavorful but not all fire which is also a big one in my books. All the sauces we tried were great actually. Not overpowering, not all processed and artificial tasting. Lovely and fresh.

Servers were on our drinks like white on rice ( ennnh....get it?) and very helpful with describing some of the dishes for my uber picky eater of a wife (love you baby, but its true and you know it).

We sat outside but the inside was very open, clean and not turbo loud (decor and music) like most of my oriental dinning experiences.

Go, go now, trust me.

Attentive service, great food, fantastic patio

I went to Joy's with some friends after reading the great reviews and I was very pleased with the experience. The servers were very attentive in refilling water glasses and the food arrived very quickly for a Saturday night dinner. I loved the chicken coconut curry and my friends enjoyed their noodle dishes. It's quickly apparent that Joy's uses quality ingredients, especially among vegetables. Our dishes were fresh, hot, and very well proportioned. The menu is very extensive and easy to navigate for those who are trying Thai food for the first time. I've visited a number of Asian BYOB restaurants in the neighborhood but would recommend Joy's as my first choice.

Consistently Great Food

I have been eating Joys at least once a month if not once a week for almost 4 years now. I always bring visiting family and friends there for an inexpensive lunch. My boyfriend and I will go there for a cheap BYOB date. I love the cashew chicken and spring rolls. I also like that I can walk in and order carry out, and have my food less than 10 minutes later.
One thing I would warn people about would be not to go in around closing time, especially if you have a bottle of wine. They are not shy about letting you know they want you out, may not make for a great dining experience.

Great Thai for the money
By SwassMike from Lincoln Park, April 27, 2008

I am a sucker for Tom Kha Gai and Pad Thai, and as a culinary professional could just as soon cook for myself. I love to go to joys because the food comes quick, is delicious and is cheap. For 6.50 you get a huge bowl of pad thai with your choice of chicken, pork or beef. Tom Kha Gai soup is my favorite soup of all time and theirs is great, although the best I've had was at Siam RIver in North Miami beach, theirs is great for a few bucks. The interior doesn't feel cheap and I love the exposed brick. Their staff are always pleasant and friendly.

Joys is by far the worst asian restaurant in Lakeview. I gave it a second chance and it only got worse. There is much better asian restaurants in Lakeview dont wast your time.

A gem in Lakeview
By thetomster from Miller Beach, October 25, 2007

What can I say. Joy's is really a gem on N. Broadway. Service is amazingly quick and the lunch specials are an astounding value. It is a great place to either kick back with a "local" paper, or enjoy a meal with friends. All are welcome here. I would really like to see a few changes in the menu and some more adventurous flavors and spices on the menu. It is a great place for "safe" Thai food.

Terrible service from start to...
By Lauren from Lakeview, IL, August 26, 2007

Terrible service from start to finish. Young male server was apparently irratated that I was drinking a lot of coffee; he came by and slammed down 2 full cups without saying anything. Had to wait 15 minutes to place a food order when there were only 2 other occupied tables in the restaurant. Then, because the server never came back after we got our food, my friend and I then had to get up and walk around to look for our server to get our bill. I myself was a server for 5 years and couldn't understand why our server seemed to be making a conscious decision to ignore us. I will never go back to this restaurant for as long as I live in Lakeview.

I have not been satisfied...
By Very Disappointed from Chicago, IL, July 31, 2007

I have not been satisfied in my last two dining experiences at Joy's. The crab rangoon were very small and not enough cream cheese mix in the middle. The Lard-na isn't something i'd recommend. Although I was satisfied the time I ordered Pad-Se-Ew. There are too many other great Thai restaurants in this city to waste time here sadly.
