I was recently at Baisi Thai for a special event called Blogapalooza.
Chef Lu had super tasty chicken satay and crab rangoon appetizers for us, along with sake and sake-tine drinks. It was all great and the staff was friendly and efficient. I am definitely going back for a full meal soon. I heard great things about the buffet and am excited to sample more of the tasty offerings.

Now I know why I hadn't been back in a while.

Having lived on the West Coast in the Seattle area is always continues to amaze me for what passes for Thai food in this town. I had been to Baisi Thai in a while having had gone there a few times many years ago. Tonight I tried it just for something different and it was below the standard I expect for Thai food even in Chicago. I ordered their Pad See Eiw and there was no sign of any egg in the dish and the sauce was a watery sweet flavour that doesn't go with this dish. The chicken looked geriatric and was almost unrecognizable.

I've grown to expect a much lower standard of Thai food in Chicago but this met my expectations. And I don't know why Coffee Mate passes as Thai Iced Coffee in this town either.

Excellent secluded Thai spot at 900 N. Michigan shops, perfect shopping break. Actually has good views of Lake Michigan from certain tables. Attentive/courteous staff and a few creative dishes.

Avoid this place, especially on...

Avoid this place, especially on a Saturday afternoon. We went in at 2 pm and told them we were in a hurry...after 40 minutes we still didn't have our food so we asked for our minimal check and left. When the hostess came over, and I began to tell her about the service, she just shrugged and walked away. Not interested in hearing about it.
Stay away.

I used to stop here...

I used to stop here all the time and pick up sushi on my way home because it's right across from my office. However, when I called last week they DRASTICALLY cut down their sushi menu. They offer the MINIMAL basics and it's rather disappointing.
