i moved to ravenswood late last year, but it hasn't stopped me from frequently returning to this neighborhood favorite... the bbq mix plate is excellent, staff is always friendly, and ordering to go rarely takes longer than 10 minutes... go once, i bet you'll be hooked!

Local Grindz in Chicago
By Ionakana from North Suburbs, February 8, 2008

Overall rating:

Excellent plate lunch, probably the most authentic in the Chicago area. The BBQ beef is my favorite, served with two scoops of nicely sticky rice and a basic but very ono mac salad (as it should be). The curry sauce is just the right level of spice. My girlfriend swears by their grilled mahi mahi. Portagee sausage fans should note that, while it doesn't appear on their printed menu, they usually have it available. My only would complaints would be in reference to their saimin (one of my favorite dishes). While not bad, it's not very authentic. The broth tastes like it's beef based rather than the more authentic bonito or shrimp based broth. Also, no kamaboko or green onions! Plus, a nice meat option would be some char siu pork besides the available BBQ beef, chicken, or spam (char siu saimin, dat's my favorite!). Lastly, while it may go beyond the scope of this restaurant, I'd love to see some local style pupu available, especially some manapua or pork hash. Overall, a great place and a nice break from the ordinary.

Genuine Island Cooking at Aloha Eats
By Second City Boy from Lake View East, October 27, 2007

Overall rating:

Formerly known as the Aloha Grill, Aloha Eats is one of my all-time favorite eateries in Chicago. You know a place is no joke calling itself Hawaiian when it serves Loco Moco, Portuguese sausage with eggs and rice, and the legendary SPAM Musubi! Take it from someone born and raised in Hawaii.... This is the REAL DEAL, authentic "home cooking" for a displaced island boy. "Eh! Jus coz get pineapple no mean da kine Hawaiian!"

The food is good. I had the lunch special that included the panko-breaded chicken, teriyaki chicken, rice, macaroni salad, and side sauce--all tasty. The woman at the counter was also really nice and very helpful. I would recommend this place.

I love this place! Where else can you get fast hearty food that doesn't taste like it came off a conveyor belt? Their service is consistently awesome as well as their food. So far I have not had anything I don't like from this menu. If you think you have a huge appetite and crave something meaty (veg option available also) on a budget then you must go here and nowhere else.

I love this place & make special trips to eat here which might sound ridiculous, but it's the only place to get authentic plate lunches whenever I'm feeling homesick. The portions are huge (I pretty much don't eat for the rest of the day), delicious & super affordable. Plus, there is nothing like coconut haupia & strawberry guava juice to make my day.
