Chef Michael Lachowicz of chichi Winnetka dining destination Restaurant Michael takes it down at notch at this Boystown sandwich shop and gourmet deli where the focus is mostly carryout. A dozen sandwiches grace the menu, most with names inspired by Hollywood divas, from the Marilyn Monroe (duck pate, chicken liver mousse, shaved red onions and brie on a toasted baguette with Dijon and frisee) to the Esther Williams (lobster and scallop sausage with butter lettuce, tarragon mayo and Old Bay on a soft potato roll). There’s also the Wally (peanut butter, marshmallow fluff and sliced bananas on a hot batter-dipped croissant) and the Agador (substitute Nutella for Wally’s peanut butter), named, like the restaurant, for Lachowicz's "diva" dogs. Gourmet salads, entrees and deli selections such as duck confit and house-cured salmon, all sold by the pound and intended for carryout, come courtesy of Restaurant Michael, as do the decadent pastries and truffles.
