Prepare to have your senses stimulated and not in a good way. This restaurant has to be one of the loudest in town. If you’re looking for a great dinner in a cool place this is NOT the place for you. We were recently seated across from a wedding party, it was impossible to have a conversation and we had to be reseated. The food is average and not worth the money. Couple that with attitude from the hostess and manager, this not a place I will be returning to any time soon.

Six of us dined here before going to the theater over on Belmont St. We lucked out with on street parking ( take lots of quarters) which normally is difficult. Walking into the bar and being greeted at the door was a nice start to an enjoyable evening. Our waiter was very respectable both with our time table ( we had theater tickets) as well as our need to enjoy conversation with our friends. The dining room was not crowded at our 5:30 pm reservation which was great to enjoy conversation. All of our meals were excellent: creative presentations, very flavorful, and the perfect quantity. We all had fish ( it was Good Friday) halibut, salmon, scallops and the waiter graciously made some substitutions. One dessert enticed us, the coconut creme brulee, and all had a taste to end our meal. We would definitely go back

Pizzette appetizer - very good (Goat Cheese with basil pesto +several other ingredient add-ons) - good for up to 3 as an appetizer, very light (suprisingly); Myt entree - Rabbit Risotto with chilies, forest mushrooms, asiago, cheese - wonderful, but rich squared. But it was OH!! so good. If you have a table of 4 or 6 and there are 3 or more risotto lovers there, order the rabbit risotto entree as the appetizer. It really is that good and a dish that should not be missed when you visit.
She picked the short ribs, also wonderful - the only possible compalint is that her short ribs dish had been sitting, the temp was cooler than of an entree that had just been plated. The good news is that the ribs were a pot roast flavor +++. Flavor bursting out of the meat juice and veggies. The desert was Croissant Bread Pudding, less than teriffic, but very good (enough for two). Our server was excellent, knew the menu and was helpful with the wine selection. The Wine list is reasonably (as reasonably as any restaurant is these days) priced with several recognized CA and Italian labels.
Go. Enjoy. The only surprise will be if you are disappointed.

I had high expectations going in since Socca had been touted by some friends. The expectations were more than exceeded. Beginning with a salad served with a fried egg that was out of this world, followed by a steak with risotto that I can honestly say was beyond comparison, capped with some fabulous wine - it made for an exceptional dinner. And the icing on the cake? The service was outstanding.

Socca is a great place to dine or host a private party. Almost a year ago, my husband and I had a wedding celebration there…our family and friends still talk about the food! (In fact, when we have visitors to Chicago…Socca is a must!) The food is delicious, the service is friendly, and the experience is always memorable.

Have been going ever since the opening (the year 2004). I try different menu items each visit. I highly recommend any of the steaks. Very flavorful & they melt in your mouth. the Steaks are a secret gem @ Socca. Also, the pizzetes are always hit. you can never go wrong.
The bar is always fun to have a drink Pre and Post dinner. you must go to Socca if you haven't already.
Cheers!

I don't come to this neighborhood that often but wow was i blown away by this place. Upon entering, the sights of amazing photography and artwork on the walls brought a very warm feeling. The bar is on one side with the dining room on another which looks upon a panoramic view of clark street. great people watching everywhere. Our party of four began with some great wine selections both available by the glass and a huge selection by bottle. very impressive. The service was great! our gal was great at suggesting both food and wine. bottom line. the shrimp socca and scallop appetizers were incredible. the guys had 2 huge ribeyes which we were told were "allen brothers" steaks. the best in town for $38!! You can't get a steak like this for this price anywhere in chicago. not to mention it came with greens and gorgonzola risotto. delicious! the girls had the rabbit risotto (very delicious if you have the courage) and the whitefish frites (their version of a friday fish fry) it was so tasty we were all sharing throughout the entire dinner. then came dessert. bread pudding and the peach crostatta. what a finish! we will be back so often it might seem like we are stalkers!

sat at the bar and ordered frites and the antipasto board. Once we had our antipasto we asked our bartender what cheese was on the board. He did not know so he went to find out. In the mean time a server came over and started to describe (with such an attitude) all the items on our plate. And he especially made sure to tell us which item was the hard boiled egg. It made us want to leave with that type of service. Oh, and then they were out of frites-who runs out of frites at 8pm??

Went to Socca last weekend, and what a let down!! The risotto was like soup, and tasted like nursing home food-- bland and boring. A little less attitude from our server, the manager and chef, with some seasoning in the food would have been nice... Very nice looking place, but that's about it..

I have been enjoying Socca since my first visit in 2004. I have never been disappointed with the food. The pizzettes are wonderful. My favorite dishes are the gnocchi and the poulet. The chicken is always very moist and the sauces are yummy! The dining room is VERY loud, so we usually plan to go there a little later after the dinner rush. We are always seated right away even without a reservation. If the weather is right take advantage of the outdoor seating (it gets interesting on days of Cubs games). Also, the service is always very professional and prompt. I recommend this restaurant to everyone!
