I just ate at Le Bouchon and I enjoyed the food very much. I'm less positive about our waitress. She completely ignored me throughout the evening. It definately made the whole experience less enjoyable. I'm not going back!

I went for dinner on Tuesday with a friend and we ordered there Lyonnaise three course special. While the food was good, the service made the expereince less than enjoyable. I arrived pretty early and was seated while I waited fro my friend. The server at no time acknowleged I was there even though there were only 2 other tables occupied since it was early. The waiter had zero personality and so did the food runner. He never smiled and seemed unhappy. When he brought the check, he laid it on the table and walked away never saying thank you. They should leave there miserable demeanors at home and not bring them on the job. Clearly we tipped the service accordingly.

arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation, only to be told by the more than rude and really quite scary hostess that we were "the last people to get here, i don't know when i'm going to have a table". Because there was no room at the bar, we went elsewhere to get a drink, when we came back 25 minutes later, again the hostess told us, "sorry, nothing yet", we left, and needless we won't ever be coming back.

The place was mobbed, though I've no idea why. My fish entree had 9 (!) lemon seeds right on the top it when it was handed to me. Despite the lemon, I don't think it had even been seasoned. The most bland, murky fish I've ever eaten at a restaurant. The hangar steak my date had was thin, dry, and something I could do for 1/4 the price with a special at Jewel. The onion soup was of diner quality. Fine dining, this was not. Seriously, this was the worst food for the price I've had in years. Do yourself a favor and go down the street to Feast where the innovation will surprise you, as will the reasonable price.

I went to Le Bouchon last night, and had a great experience. It did get a little too crowded in the small bistro towards the end of the night, but the food, and eye candy were both top notch. I had the lamb shank as my entree, and it was perfectly cooked and so tasteful. In fact, I haven't stopped talking about it since I left. Nuggs said I was even talking about it in my sleep. Long story short... go to Le Bouchon. :)

I went to Paris tonight - just kidding, but Bucktown's Le Bouchon made me want to throw on a beret and cry out, "Oui!" The lamb shanks were great, and their Tuesday night 3 course meal special left everyone at our table satisfied. Word for the wise - park your own car; the valet's speed left much to be desired, but plenty of time to digest our food.

The menu is correct; escargot, steak frites, cassoulet, all well executed. The wine list is well put together and has several excellent values. Sure, it's crowded... it's a bistro. The servers are rude? How about they're just busy? This is one of those restaurants where the proper approach is to expect good food at a good/great price, in a casual neighborhood joint... nothing more, nothing less. Just because it's French, don't expect a formal dining experience.
Great place. Highly recommended.

awful
great service, great wine
but awful food
I wanted anything to taste good
nothing
ask the chef if he or she can put some butter or salt
into the French food
then drink some more wine
the food sucked
how do you ruin rabbit?
how do you ruin lamb?
Report This ReviewThe standard bistro menu shouldn't have been that difficult, but our table of four had at least two misses for every course - blah, overcooked salmon; painfully oversalted steak; a pound of cheese in the onion soup; bizarre aftertaste in the lemon tarte, etc. A few nice dishes were the blood sausage, creme brulee and the salad with bleu cheese. With a little work on the food, this could be a great place. Maybe it once was and can be that again.
Report This ReviewThis place is a favorite of mine; not to many places in the city anymore that offer this quality of food for the price they charge. I agree waitstaff could be a little more friendly but nonetheless they are attentive. The salt cod brandade & lamb shank are absolutely fantastic. Great wine list that is also reasonably priced. Make reservations well in advance as this Bucktown favorite fills up quickly.
