Bistro Campagne: User Reviews
Just ate there for the first time despite living in the neighborhood for awhile. Food was great! Service was fine, nothing outstanding but they left us along and allowed us to linger.
Overall a perfect meal.

We've been wanting to try Bistro Campagne for several years and finally had the chance this past weekend. A truly classic bistro, the interior is quite charming. The menu is simple but offers the most logical French dishes you'd expect to find. Since the chefs focus on using organic ingredients, the food is extremely fresh and flavorful. We had the escargot and the pate of the day, both of which were excellent. You must use the yummy baguette to mop up all the garlic butter sauce from the escargot! The chicken with a mushroom ragout and onion frites was superb, and the pork chop was delicious as well. Service was excellent too. I look forward to going back later in the fall when the cassoulet is back on the menu!

Bistro Campagne is one of my favorites. Normally an overall superior experience. Last night was an exception. Apparently they got slammed, and our reservations were pushed out about 20 mins. I really appreciated that they called in advance to let us no about the delay. They were quite apologetic and immediately seated us. The server was polite, but seemed overwhelmed and a bit confused. The food was up-to-par as usual, but here was the real annoyance: as we wound down on our main course, we were repeatedly bombarded with "are you finished?" despite have food remaining on our plates. I dampened the experience and I hope that in the future, they'll be a bit more sensitive to the diner's experience.

We had a fairly nice time at BC this evening, but there were some food stumbles. The crusty bread and herbed bean spread made for a delicious start, but a way-too-salty vinaigrette diminished an otherwise nice salad with goat cheese. I tumbled for the steak frites -- very tasty, though the frites were not so crispy. My companion’s roast chicken was a bit undercooked; otherwise, the flavor was good and the accompanying mushrooms and onion frites were a treat. For dessert, peach tart was a mess -- it was apparently forgotten in a hot oven, and sat bubbling on our table for five minutes (by which time the peaches were totally denatured). Alas, not of the dishes were presented with much visual flair. Cappuccino was passable. We had a nice Cotes du Rhone at a reasonable price. Service was timely and attentive. Too bad about the food fluffs -- they could have been easily avoided.

Booking for one can be difficult, but not here.
Table was available right away, and the service was impeccable.
Had Escargo, which was so good I ate almost the whole loaf of bread as a dipping tool eating the sauce.
My entree wwas the leg of lamb, which again was great, including the anchovies on top.
I topped it all off with the Chocolate Soufle which was totally sinful.
Great wine list and great ambience.
I am looking forward to returning soon

This place is pretty freaking great. Everything we had was good from appetizer to the dessert. Perfect meal. We've gotta go back soon. It's number ONE! Viva La Frenchy.

Better than typical authentic French Bistro. The food and service is consistently good. When they have food specials, they are usually really good. The ambiance in the front room is great, middle and back rooms are just so-so. Wine list could use a little freshening-up with some better producers. We choose to keep coming back here versus the dozen or so other similar bistro-types which we have tried around Chicago.

Do not believe bad reviews! We went on a Saturday night and sat on the patio, which was very calm and secluded. The service was slow but that's because the owner wants to recreate a true French Bistro and service is always very slow in France. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced for its high quality. The server was very friendly and we had a very long relaxing meal without anyone rushing us to leave. This place is a great way to escape the crazy environment of most outdoor patios and I will definitely go back. However, I would not go if I had some place that I needed to be right after dinner.
