It was amazing. Swore I wouldn't go back because of the service but my friend wanted to go so... Everything was awesome. The food was even better than I remember and the service was outstanding. Best sambussas anywhere and the whole fried tilapia rocked. And who knew you could get great tiramisu at an ethiopian place. I am back on board.

Food, great. Service and ambiance, appropriate. Prices, well-suited. Everything about this place is good, except for the egregious corkage fee. $8/btl! The Grocery Bistro, a much fancier spot charges $5/btl. Not to mention, Demera is in Uptown, where prices are suppose to be at least less abusive than downtown. Although, I do recommend this place for anyone who has never tried Ethiopian.

I tried this place tonight but was not impressed. Compared to Ethiopian Diamond and Ras Dashen, both further north on Broadway, Demera's Quosta was not as tasty, and the Ye-Siga Alicha was oilier (and served lukewarm). The Tikle Gomen was comparable, as was the Beef Sambussa. I tried the Yassa Wat for the first time, and neither my dinner companion nor I cared for the bitter-tasting sauce (perhaps it was the ginger roots?), and the Ye-Selit Fitit was bland. The decor is nice, and the place is clean, but the glasses are of cheap quality, and our tables and chairs were wobbly. Service was a bit brusk initially, but our server warmed over time. Overall, an OK experience, but other places are better, IMHO.

I just went to Demera and loved it. It was crowded on a Sat. night but my friend and I had no problem getting a table. There was music playing which was nice but it wasn't so loud we couldn't talk. The service was friendly and the meal was very good. Huge portions and tons of vegetarian options. Its also a great value-the veggie combo was big enough for 2 and only $15! Will def be back.

We went to Demera to celebrate multiple birthdays with a group of best friends. It was a great place to share food and try many different dishes. I thought all of the food was perfectly spiced, and I left with an overly full belly. Also, Demera is BYOB so we saved lots of bucks on ordering rounds of drinks. The service was great, seeing as none of us had eaten Ethiopian food before. The server was very sweet and patient about teaching us the customary way to order/eat the food. Demera is fantastic! If it was located a little closer, I would be a regular!

Went there for a friend's birthday with a party of 12. First they messed up our reservation and tried to argue that we didnt have one, but still, we were seated at a large table within minutes. The menu and the way they serve food was extremely confusing even for me, someone coming from Europe/Middle East. I hated the whole "you have to share a huge plate with others and eat with your hands" thing, sorry, but doesnt really work here in the States, also even though the food was delicious, it was extremely greasy and heavy. If you are into this kinda food, it's worth a shot, but I dont think that I'm going there any time soon.

Amazing Ethiopian food--the spices are delicious. I tried four vegetarian dishes for $15 and had some left over. Service was very friendly, although slow (which was fine, we weren't in a rush). The restaurant was about half-full on a Friday night and the hostess asked us if we had a reservation, which seemed strange, but with lots of empty tables it was no problem that we didn't. Diners were a great mix of people. So glad to have Demera in the neighborhood... we'll be back!

I first saw Demera when it was under construction, and I anxiously awaited the grand opening. The wait was well worth it! Every bite of food was unbelievably delicious, and our server was friendly, pleasant and helpful with selecting a wine and our dishes. (We sampled six vegetarian dishes and two meat dishes.) I can't wait to go back, and I will recommend it to everyone I know.
A couple of other notes: We went late on a Friday night, and although the place was busy, we got a seat right away and were served at a relaxing but not slow pace. They also were very gracious about letting patrons stay beyond their 11 pm closing time. We didn't feel rushed at all -- and I've been in many places where I have felt rushed. When we first got there, there was a keyboard and singing duo in the front corner of the restaurant. That added a little something to the atmosphere.
Not sure what else to add except : You must try it!
