Fame da Lupo
Fame da Lupo translates roughly to "hungry like the wolf," but Lubo Yordanov (pictured) didn't swipe the name of his new restaurant from Duran Duran. The Italian phrase fits his desire to satisfy the famished, he says--and it's a lot sexier than the American equivalent, "I could eat a horse."
The menu at the Uptown BYOB, which Yordanov opened about three weeks ago with his wife, Kesinee Tang, and partner Vladi Venev, leans Italian, but it is accented with touches from Yordanov's native Bulgaria. There are salads, pastas and some fairly standard appetizers (bruschetta, garlic bread, fried zucchini, etc.) on the menu, but you'll want to skip over those. Pizzas aren't really the draw here either, though the kitchen turns out reasonably priced ($9-$20.50) thin-crust and hand-tossed versions with toppings ranging from standards such as tomato-basil to more creative combos like potato-dill-garlic and bacon-onion-fried egg.
