Great Food, Quaint Atmosphere
By wickerjunkie from Wicker Park, February 18, 2009

The food was absolutely amazing, unique, and full of flavor. The place is small and doesn't seat a lot of people, but definitely worth the wait. The prices are more than reasonable. I recommend the Orange French Toast. The lady taking our order was a little snobbish at the register which was a turnoff, but the hostess was great!

Pour some honey on me!

This place is great! I agree that the wait and constant crowds on the weekends are a hassle but it's well worth it. I highly recommend the hueovos rancheros - it is melt in your mouth good! I hope they expand someday into a bigger place someday.

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING
By Santino from Lincoln Square, October 5, 2008

I also was enticed to try Milk & Honey based on the the Check Please! program. The ambiance is nice, great location and a nicely decorated place. But the food was HORRIBLE. I concur with the previous comments about the egg sandwich. Wet, puffy eggs, flavorless bacon and poorly conceived. The inside of the bread soggy and unpleasant while the outside is hard to bite through. The result was most of the eggs slops right out of the bread with the first bite. When this happens you see the mushy egg melange. I would recommend dropping this item altogether or use a fried egg while toasting the sandwich less in the George Foreman grill. The overpriced coffee and tacky potato chips for breakfast rounded out the meal. It was the first and last time I will ever dine Milk & Honey. I checked the menus of virtually all the other restaurants in the area and undoubtedly will find one with better food.

Neighbors going elsewhere...
By SandyD from Wicker Park, June 15, 2008

We live around the corner from Milk & Honey and loved it ever since we moved to the neighborhood in 2005. Until recently, it was a regular part of our weekend breakfast excursions. I don't quite know when it all started going to heck (may have been coincidentially timed with the "Check Please" review some time ago) but our last few trips were enough to convince us that we need to find new options for breakfast. In the past 4 visits we have enjoyed, among the screaming toddlers and other delights, cold huevos rancheros and goopy undercooked eggs on a panini. Then there was the missing bacon. The serve-yourself concept, which once seemed to work well, appears to have gotten off track. That and being dealt with by the staff as more of a nuisance than a guest or customer as done it for us. For goodness' sake, could you SMILE once in a while? Or at least pretend to recognize the core group of diners who have been coming in weekend after weekend, before and after "Check Please" made you a destination for suburbanites everywhere? We don't want anything ridiculous, we just want a decent breakfast and a nice cup of coffee. Not sure if the second location near the Blue Line stop is taking away resources that used to make this place great. I hope it gets back to what it was.

Take a good look at these faces
By Claire from Wicker Park, April 26, 2008

Take a good look at these faces because we won't be going back to Milk and Honey. We heard the food here was great, but we extremely disagree. We went there for breakfast and ordered the panni. All you get is eggs, cheese and bacon on bread that was toasted, no sauce, eggs not cooked all the way, just plain awful. While the coffee is good, the gallon cups they serve it in are too heavy to hold and have too small of a handle. My boyfriend felt like he was in an Alice-in-Wonderland environment. Also, I don't think the place could have fit any more strollers inside! The place it is tiny but parents still think it's ok to bring in all of their baby equipment and expect everyone else to find some other way to refill their coffee. There are signs on the wall that ask you to leave when you are done eating, and the people there stare at you until you do. Are we missing something here? Why is this place so popular?

Pleasantly surprised
By BearsFan from Oak Park, March 26, 2008

After reading all the negative reviews about the poor service, I was expecting the worst and even skeptical to go. However, my expectations were exceeded. My expired gift certificate was accepted without a hitch and though I went on a weekday for brunch, found the place to have plenty of open seating. Nice ambiance, better than average neighborhood cafe. Breakfast menu is small but offerings are unique and very good; tried the buttermilk-granola pancakes and was quite happy with the selection. Good coffee with free refills and the people behind the counter were pleasant enough. Would come back again for sure.

A review of my final trip to Mil and Honey!!!!!!!!!!
By bbqlover from uk village, January 19, 2008

I went again today even though I said I would never go back. Once again I was not let down by the less than stellar service and atmosphere. It is incredible to me that an owner of a restaurant with food as good as this would tolerate employees as lackluster as these. It makes me believe ownership just doesn't care. If they did they would certainly have corrected the situation by now. I guess they like the slacker, hipsters working there who so clearly show their disdain for their customers. To bad! No matter how much my girlfriend begs, this was my final trip to MIl and Honey!!!!!

Get it to go!
By Dee25 from Ravenswood, November 25, 2007

Milk and honey cafe has the most delicious cafe food around the city of Chicago, however, it is constantly crowded and stuffy. The service is way below what is expected of a place that carries such scrumptious food. The cashiers are rude and snotty. When you order they put a number on "some" table for you, but conveniently don't mention where it is, so when you're carrying that steaming cup of Joe, burning your hands off and aimlessly walking through the crowds...you get slightly irritated. Food is great, but I would highly recommend getting it to go and sitting down in your own home, at least you know where that is.

Great food, horrible service. I live in the area and go there often. Each time, the women that work behind the counter are rude and never have a smile on their face. I will not go there again because of the service, which is a shame since the food is so good.

By Jorge from Chicago, IL, July 20, 2007

The food here is incredible, but the service is awful. I can't understand the concept of one person working the register and switching between a "take-out" register and a "dine-in" register with separate lines. Especially when there are so many people working at Milk and Honey and the line gets so long.
