The Brasserie's Market

Neighborhood: Old Town
1211 N. Wells St.

Chicago, IL 60611
312-943-0540
Price range: $ (Under $9)

This European-style market is an offshoot of Old Town Brasserie, the popular neighborhood French restaurant located right next door. Though you can dine in the brasserie or on the sidewalk cafe until late afternoon (just before dinner service starts), the main focus is on carryout, with early opening hours for coffee and pastries and a lineup of gourmet salads and sandwiches for lunch and dinner. There's also a handful of unfussy entrees from Old Town Brasserie chef Andy Motto, including spinach lasagna, herb-roasted chicken and grilled salmon with herb butter. If you're making a pre-picnic stop, the market has you covered with wine, a variety of sides and house-made sweets; you also can buy or rent baskets fully stocked with sandwiches, sides, cheese, pate, wine and more. Prefer to do the cooking yourself? The market stocks some hard-to-find specialty items, including gourmet oils and sea salts.
