La Cocina serves real Puerto Rican food. The cook at La Cocina Criolla is from Puerto Rico, contrary to most other Puerto Rican restaurants in the city that have Mexican cooks. Saturday and Sunday, this nice, simple restaurant offers a large buffet. During the week customers can enjoy a simpler lunch buffet. La Cocina Criolla has an adjoining dining room usually used for banquets and special celebrations. This second room is decorated by the paintings of Gary Larson, a very interesting local artist. The paintings are on sale, and are worthy of a look. Since 1990, the restaurant has built a good reputation in the area. It is frequented by the neighbors plus all kinds of Puerto Rican food aficionados. The manager says a lot of Americans who have visited Puerto Rico come here to experience the sounds and tastes of the island again.
