El Mariel

This spartan counter-service Cuban sandwich shop specializes in pan con lechon, a basic Cuban-style sandwich of bread and roast pork. Other options include Cubanos, pan con tortilla (a simple bread and omelet sandwich) and a couple of non-Cuban oddities: a turkey panino and a chicken parmesan sandwich. Sides consist of Cuban specialties such as tostones, papas fritas, croquetas and empanadas; there's also fresh-brewed coffee. Though the focus here is carryout, there's a tidy dining area with bright blue walls and a couple of tables. If you're looking for sit-down Cuban and far more options (not to mention far better flavors) you'll be better off next door at Habana Libre.
