Went to Coobah for dinner on a Friday night. The place looks nice enough, kind of an upscale latin bistro look. The rest was underwhelming. The menu makes everything sound good, but when the food comes you find it is cold, overcooked, or just beaten to death with some overpowering sauce/glaze. We had a group of 5, so we ordered a lot of dishes to share. Tamales - the meat inside was dry and stringy. Shrimp - so glazed you couldn't taste shrimp, and the shrimp were cold. Duck egg rolls - soggy on the outside, but the duck/mushroom filling tasted pretty good. Calamari - sad to say the best dish of the night, but their cocktail sauce is a strange sweet ketchup. Pork Tenderloin - one of the entrees, pork was dry and tough, filling tasted ok but only because it was creamy. Chicken - also dry and stringy. That about covers it. Overall, it just seems like the dishes sounded better on paper than on the table. There's no subtlety to any of the dishes, so they all taste boring. I practically expected them to bring me A1 steak sauce. The other issue was the so-so service. Our waiter came and asked me if I wanted a refill on my cocktail once, when it was still half full. He never asked again. He also never gave me water. There's a reason why Tango Sur is a minute up the block with a line out the door, and this place... relatively empty. We actually ended up going to another restaurant immediately afterwards to have a better meal. Still, there are some people who might enjoy this kind of over-done food. Give it a try and decide for yourself.

Went to Coobah for the first time on Friday night. Tried their appetizer special (crab cake with ice cream and a spicy coleslaw) which was delicious. Our waitress accidentally forgot an order, so the manager gave us another appetizer which was equally as good. I had the tilapia with a tortilla crust and ham, which was excellent. My friend ordered the pork tenderloin (now back on the menu by popular demand) which was delectable...I would recommend this dish for any first timers. One person in my party thought their tenderloin was too rare, so Coobah comped the meal and gave us two free desserts. Overall great food and service. I will definitely be going back!

We are usually really flexible diners, and most bad experiences don't warrant a bad review. But take cold food, poor service, and a dirty table and mix them all together - and we felt compelled to share this double thumbs down. Saturday brunch - place is packed. One server, one bartender, and a busboy working the entire inside and patio were in way over their heads. Table was sticky with food chunks and spilled sangria. When our food finally did get to us (after 35 minutes for 2 sandwiches) - the pulled beef tasted like cold rubber and the beans were dry as dirt. The chicken sandwich tasted like it was sitting out on the line since the last Cubs' home stand. Bad food - okay - but service saved the day right? - no one ever checked on us, despite two full orders of inedible food still sitting on the plates they were served to us on for 20 more minutes at the edge of the table.
Maybe on another visit we'd have better luck - but usually it's the service that we give a 2nd chance since the food is so good - can't say that with any confidence at Coobah.

We have been to Coobah twice and have had two totally different experiences:
Brunch is excellent! Everyone in our party of six ordered something different and everyone loved their meal. We sat outside which was great on a warm summer day. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and meal – 5 stars.
Dinner on the other hand was not so good. We had to wait for a table even though only one part was ahead of us and there were at five open tables that we could see. I had the Shellfish Stew “Zarzuela.” The seafood was cooked perfectly but the taste of paprika was very overpowering and tasted like arroz con pollo, they only thing missing was the rice. Service was slow and impersonal, and our meals were okay at best – 1 star.

I went to Coobah with some friends last Thursday for $5 mojitos and we had one the best times I can remember. The staff was accomodating of our pretty large party and we got a table after a very short wait at the bar, where we all had mojitos--Delicious. There was a cuban jazz band playing which really works well with the ambiance in there. Our server was attentive and made some great recommendations. The food was outstanding. Check Please was right on with this one. The "Jibarito", the Flank Steak, and the Chicken Negra Modelo were highlights. Also, the chocolate dessert( it was a pot de creme of some kind) had a touch of spice that was interesting and a perfect finish to our meal. The drinks and the band kept us around for most of the night and we had a really enjoyable evening. To sum up: Excellent Latin fusion food with a great drink list and live music. What's not to like?

Very disappointed in service & food was not worth the price. Sangria was not mixed well. Mainly club soda and a splash of red wine. Server insulted when we asked to have the bartender remix the sangria. Nice jazz band but thats the only nice thing I can sauy about our experience. Will not be patronizing again.

the food at this restaurant rivals that of NYC's Patria. Preparation is excellent, and the taste still authentic to its Cuban roots.
Wine list and drinks are great. This is not a 'taqueria', its fine latin food.

I've given this place THREE tries. Dinner, lunch AND brunch and each time the service has been horrible, the food bland and COLD and the drinks overpriced. I'm done.
Seriously. Worst service. I'm a former waitress. I'm VERY forgiving. This was ridiculous. And the food needed way too much salt and pepper and ANYTHING to give it a taste other than paper. Skip it and head to Irving to Cafe 28.

My husband and I decided to try this place after seeing it on check please. This was a waste of money. The food is just ok and is not worth the cost or the time. I will never return.
