90 Miles Cuban Cafe
- 3101 N. Clybourn Ave.
- Chicago, IL 60618
- 773-248-2822
- Price range: $ (Under $9)
This very affordable Cuban spot turns out delicious hot Cuban sandwiches such as Cubano, media noche, ropa vieja and timba (guava and Swiss cheese). Don't miss owner Alberto Gonzalez's own creation, the lechon sandwich, which brings roasted shredded pork, grilled onions and tasty garlic sauce together with sweet plantain. More substantial dinner plates (options include chicken, pork, ropa vieja, veggie and more) are served with white rice, black beans and sweet plantains. There's also a lineup of sides like empanadas, tostones and fried cassava, and early risers can feast on made-to-order omelet sandwiches and cafe con leche. 90 Miles does a brisk carryout business; the restaurant itself is tiny, with counter seating for about a dozen in a room wallpapered with a fascinating collection of old newspaper articles, advertisements and photos from Cuba.
