My husband and I love Vie. We have 3 small children and it is our "date night" every Thursday. I can guarantee a great meal and now the waiters/waitresses/bartender are like friends. This is a wonderful place to try. A must on your list. Chef Paul is also just a wonderful person that loves his job, his family and life!

Vie, one of the suburbs best.
By daverino from oak park, May 13, 2008

The quality is high at Vie, and so is the consistency. Every visit is an assurred degustatory thrill. I have been going there for about a year and a half, and have never been let down. Vie, along with Courtwright's, Tallgrass, and Salbute (which no longer exists, sadly) are the best restaurants that have ever graced the west suburbs.
Keep up the great work!

Exceeded Expectations
By LeleW from River North, February 21, 2008

My husband & I were looking for something to do for New Year's Eve in the western 'burbs. Vie turned up in a search for NYE special events; they were offering a prix fixe menu at two different seatings. By this time, the only availability they had was for the 5:30 seating, but it had started snowing so we didn't mind the prospect of an early evening. I'd read the excellent reviews, so my expectations were pretty high -- but they were well exceeded by the experience. Even though the menu was predetermined, we were floored - an absolutely phenomenal meal, and the wine pairings could not have been better. We loved the contemporary decor as well. Who knew our best meal of 2007 would be on the very last day?? Almost on a par with Tru, which is our gold standard for fine dining.

Fantastic!

Had read some previous reviews and was a little leery, but was very pleasantly surprised. Took my wife there on a Monday night for her birthday in December, 2007. Mondays happen to be half-price wine (bottles) night, giving us a chance to sample a really good bottle of wine we normally wouldn't splurge for. The wine selection is rather robust. The food was simply amazing. We had a fabulous gnochi appetizer that had both of us nearly licking the plate clean. She had the short rib and I had turkey two ways, both of which were awesome. If there was one knock, the service was a little slow, but good otherwise. Would go back in an instant!

3rd time still disappointing
By Linna from Chicago, October 25, 2007

This is my third try and 3 disappointing dinners. For the (over)price, the selection wasn't inspired, the menu was limited and all of the wine was very expensive for what it is. My vegetables were cold, the service was kind, but not terribly interested in our party. I have to say that I've had that same feeling all 3 times that I was there - that we just weren't worth any effort. Pretty sad, as I should be exactly their target audience.

Amazing Food, Great Value
By Marshall from Lakeview, October 21, 2007

The food was great. We took the Metra from the city and it is right by the train, behind the True Value Hardware store. I'd had Paul Virant's food at various events and I figured that fall was the best time to enjoy the seasonal dishes he creates. I had the warm salad of squash, cippolini onions and pear with pecorino. My girlfriend had the gnocci and both were insanely good. Then I had the sturgeon with sweet potato and brussles sprouts which was very rich and perfectly cooked. My girlfriend had the goat's leg which was possibly the best meat dish I have had. It is worth the trip from the city and if the chef ever opened a restaurant in Chicago he would make a killing.

The food is as good...
By Matt from Chicago, il, August 2, 2007

The food is as good as it gets, original, tasty, interesting. The chef obviously puts a lot of effort into the ingredients and it shows. It is expensive but worth it. You can get a decent meal cheaper, but it will not compare. Do yourself a favor and try it.

Went back to check out how Vie was doing. We had a delightful meal. Sweetbreads for me. Beef and quail for others in our party. Everyone found he food delicious, the service attentive and our selection of Malbec wine a treat. We'll be back.
