Save your green!

Save your money by avoiding this restaurant. The menu is overpriced for extremely bland food. The service is hit or miss, mostly miss. We have tried this restaurant numerous times and have been disappointed by the food, or the service, or by both. Waste of time and money!

Great Addition to North Side

There are very few places that always sound good to me. I'm always in the mood for Uncommon Ground. My two loves are the calamari appetizer and the lemon ginger martini. Ambiance: I like that the artwork is always changing. The fire is nice in the winter and the seating is evenly spaced in the room.
Food: I recommend the Millman burger, Pumpkin Ravioli and they have a good veggie burger.
Service: There is a tall, blonde, female server that is really great. Very professional, good knowledge of the menu. Some of the others have been a little flakey.
Value: I have to admit, I'm always a little surprised at the amount of the check. I always expect it to be less. Then again, maybe I should just stick to one martini.
I'm dying to try their brunch, I heard the coffee is delicious.

Great Addition to Edgewater

I have eaten here at Uncommon Ground 3 times and will definitely be back. The food and drinks are delicious and always taste very fresh-- we have especially enjoyed the fish tacos, trio of duck, meatloaf and minted lemonade. (Not everything is a hit-- stay away from the s'mores dessert, which didn't taste like much more than sugar and the butane from the torch they used to brulee the marshmallow.) Great cocktail list- try the Greyhound with pineapple and sea salt. We haven't had any complaints about the service, although it's nothing special either.

Executive Chef/Sous Chef...what?!?!
By len1k from North Park, July 4, 2008

This place would be great if the food was better. The atmosphere is great and looking at the menu, the items seemed pricey but we thought it would be worth it because the menu items seemed really tasty; especially with "executive chef and sous chef" named on the menu. I ordered chocolate chip pancakes, but when I got them I couldn't find the chocolate chips. When we inquired about it, they were WHITE chocolate chips and there were only a couple of them in the center of the pancakes. These pancakes were $10! My boyfriend got crawfish & andouille sausage eggs benedict for $12. How can a cajun dish be bland? There was absolutely NIO taste to them at all. The only thing that was good was the coffee. Our stomachs weren't doing too well afterwards, either. Needless to say, we will never go back. This place is a bit of a rip-off.

FABULOUS CASUAL RESTAURANT!!
By Susan from Uptown, May 11, 2008

Four os us went last night for dinner. The restaurant was very crowded but we were seated immediately. The wines & wine list were great! The food is top-notch. The salads are wonderful as is the calamari & vegetarian chili. The back ribs are some of the best I have ever had. The duck & boulibaise were also wonderful. The ambiance was very good & they even have a parking lot that is free. A win, win situation! Go you won't be sorry!!

This place is great - I can't wait to go again!

We went to Uncommon Ground for Sunday brunch, I had the whole wheat banana pancakes with goji berry sauce with a side of chicken sausages and my companion had the Spicy Chorizo & Chihuahua Cheese Chilaquiles with a French press of the special coffee and one blood orange mimosa each. The food was perfectly delicious, we were seated the instant we walked in, the staff couldn't have been more attentive and pleasant, the drinks were great, and the atmosphere is very welcoming. Neither of us have anything negative to say, and we both love to complain - so, what are you waiting for? Go already!

Fresh Local Organic and Tasteless
By viola from edgewater, March 2, 2008

As a supporter of local produce, organic produce, and fresh foods I waited for what seems like ages for Uncommon Ground to open their doors in Edgewater. The decor is lovely - the menu and the food descriptions enticing - the ingredients mouthwatering - and the end product horrible. The smoked mozzarella omlette arrived complete with what appeared to be an entire 10oz log of uncut mozzarella sandwiched between cold layers of omlette. The food was cold and the potatoes gummy as though they had come from a warming bin in a cafeteria. Everyone at the table was unsatisfied especially when the bill arrived: coffee, breakfast, tax and tip averaged around $20 per person. The moral of this story is that you can take all of the best available ingredients but unless you have a skilled kitchen staff the end result can equal disaster.

2 bad experiences, needs improvement
By sven733 from Rogers Park, February 18, 2008

2 visits, both bad experiences. The 1st evening our reservation wasn't honored due to overbooking. On the 2nd occasion we asked to be seated at a larger table when the reservation was placed, we reminded them when they called to confirm and asked for a larger table upon arrival. It was denied when we arrived due to misbooking. We sat at a two top meanwhile tables on either side of us remained open...Reservation and host staff definitely need improvement.

Cocktail and draft beer prices are overpriced at $9 and $7 respectively. Food is average. LIve music is great. Service and committment to a quality experience is poor.

Bad, bad, bad, bad, Leroy Brown...

Food was okay, Overpriced. Host staff doesn't know how to map a seating chart. Service staff seems novice at best. The reason they don't put the drink prices on the menu is because they too, are overpriced. $9.00 for a cocktail. $7.00 for a draft. On the other hand the live music is very good.
