Over Easy has been my favorite breakfast joint for like two years, and I haven't quite found a new place yet..until I tried Uncommon Ground. The ambience was great, I love the comfortable vibe of this place..I completely am an advocate of organic food. The taste of the plates, from the chillaquiles to the bean cake was sooo tasty!! Our server was excellent and the bus boys were attentive and so nice ..i love this place ..a bit pricey for breakfast but knowing my money goes towards family owned farms..it makes the food even more worth while

What a disappointment--have always loved breakfast but dinner was a disaster

We tried this as a new place for dinner. What a nightmare. We were told 5-10 minutes and almost finished the first drink before being seated. Our order was taken promptly. I orderd the boar sausage and pheasant sausage starter and a friend order the soup to start. One of us didn’t get anything. We also ordered our main dishes. The sausages came first and the waiter put them into the middle of the table—no soup. I finished the sausages which were the best part of the whole meal. We were still waiting for the soup. Eventually, we asked if the soup was coming and it came out. On to the main dish! The other two both had the bacon wrapped meatloaf and I had the Duo of Duck. I started eating and it was lukewarm—somewhat ok for seared duck breast. However the other part of the duo was duck confit—I can’t quite understand how that could be as dry as sawdust since it’s cooked in oil. The potatoes underneath were somewhat warm, but the crust was overcooked and they weren’t seasoned properly. Back to the meatloaf, as I started, they tried them—their words not mine—“stone cold”. We flagged down the host and sent them back and they got hot versions in a few minutes. I tried their meatloaf and it was bland. The manager did offer to give us desserts for the problems. We chose their special cake with pumpkin gelato and apple crisp. The cake was very dry. The gelato had a subtle pumpkin flavor with a stronger cinnamon taste. The apple crisp was barely warmed apples with not really a crisp style crust—not at all what I pictured—a gooey soft apple desert with lots of crumbles. At least the desserts were free.

Great food and atmosphere, buy over priced. Entrees are in the upper teens to lower twenties.

Great food, great service

I've been here a few times on dates, but on Monday night went here for a quite drink and dinner, alone. I sat at the bar. It's a pretty cool bar--great drinks selection (very cool beers and interesting wines). The bartender was incredibly helpful and had a really relaxed way about her. The waitstaff were similarly attentive and pleasant. I ordered the sausage sampler and a small salad. The sausage dish was great. The summer salad was okay (probably my fault as it wasn't a good pick to go with the sausage sampler). The wines I had were great (a New Zealand Pinot and a Lebanese Cabernet). The bartender was clearly knew the wines and was able to provide useful advice. The location is great (nice open windows in the bar area, but a cozy feel within). This is one of my favorite restaurants/bars in Chicago.

Very unorganized place.

Our group made a reservation for a music show that was advertised through GPF. It was supposed to start on Sunday, 05/11, at 9pm. I confirmed it on Saturday and our friend called on Sunday around 1pm to reconfirm. When we got to the restaurant we were told that the 9pm show got cancelled and were offered to listen to the 7:30pm show that was about to end. The manager was apologetic for her staff and the fact that they didn't know what was going on, but it was not convincing enough. One friend had to drive for 1.5 hours from the suburbs to hear that the show would not take place. Indeed, a very frustrating experience. It goes without saying that we will not return to this place.

$15 for 2 scallops...are you kidding me?
By WindyCityGatorGirl from Wrigleyville, April 15, 2008

I think this place tries to be something it "wants" to be-Now it has a couple of good items, but some items are really over priced-As I mentioned, 2 scallops for $15, I could see if they were the size of my palm, but they are regular sized scallops-Now I've been to much higher priced places to eat that have scallops and are the same tasting and get more, so I don't know what they are trying to prove but at least put another scallop on the plate-It's very earthy/hippie in a way-Art and music, and pretty pricey drinks as well-I've had brunch here, pancakes and they were the worst pancakes I've ever had in my life-So gross and they were cold-They could make the place better in my opinion-

Outstanding and surprising menu, knowledgeable and charming service, beautiful martini menu (better than anything downtown). Wines that are as great as any so called "wine place" in town and a beer selection that is really smart.....(where has this been all my life)...got a seat by the fire and I'm hooked!! I Had a drink with wattleseed and bourbon named after tom waits that almost made me cry! A cocoa rubbed steak! Sweet potato fries...Simply...wow....

RUDE! Kid-friendly? I don't think so.
By A Mom from Lincoln Park, January 28, 2008

Rude management on Saturday treated our large party so poorly that we left before being seated. If you have kids, you should definitely re-think going for brunch - or any meal -- at Uncommon Ground. Our group of 11 will not be back anytime soon. Try Wishbone instead: tons of space, amazing service, and very kid-friendly!

Never disapoints
By Emily from Wrigleyville, January 20, 2008

I have eaten at Uncommon Ground numerous times since moving to Wrigleyville last summer and it never disapoints. The food its great and creative and the atmosphere relaxed. While you sometimes have to wait if you don't have a reservation (and unfortunately they don't take reservations for brunch), its well worth it and I never feel rushed to leave by the staff. I love that they use a lot of organic and locally grown food. Just a note, if you are a fan of Miller or Bud, they won't have it, but be adventurous and try some of the wonderful and unique beers they do have.
