Topaz: User Reviews
I have been to Topaz several times and I really like the atmosphere. The ambiance is very relaxing and it is a nice place to have some dinner and a few drinks. The more I go, the less I eat, however. While I like a lot of items on the menu, the selections are few. I would like to see a larger selection or frequent changes.

Topaz serves ordinary fare...that is a FACT 1. FACT 2 ...the service is very unattentive. FACT 3..if you really want a great place to dine, head over to Tallgrass, for the very best! And if that's too far to go, Vie and Tallgrass are your next best options. Burr Ridge deserves better than what Topaz can offer.

We arrived on time for our 6:30 Saturday night reservation and was greeted by the hostess. The restaurant was less than half full. She led us to the worst table in the restaurant, next to the open kitchen door and in the path of all of the food servers, despite their being open booths and tables everywhere. When we declined that table, she put us at the second worst table, next to the first worst table, and had a terrible attitude with eye rolling and rude remarks. We declined that table as well and she sighed and led us to the back dining room, also more than half empty, which was very pleasant as it was quiet and out of the way of the kitchen and servers.
This really put a damper on our evening but we had a nice time anyway. Our service, food and timing of our meal was excellent. But we had a bad taste in our mouth by the rude attitude and insulting placement of our table.
I have been to other restaurants who do the same thing, they try and seat your party at the worst table, when other better ones are available. The restaurant was never full the entire evening, so it is not like we arrived with no reservations and had to take what table they had left.
Management - please take this into consideration as we dine out a great deal and there are many fine choices besides your restaurant. Your food and food service were excellent, the best we had in a long time, but the attitude of the front of the house can ruin the experience. Word of mouth can kill a restaurant and believe me, we will be telling everyone about the rude hostess and how she almost ruined our night out.
The check for four was $260.00 including tip and for that kind of money the entire restaurant should be top notch.
The food servers deserve 5 stars, the front of the house deserves none.

WOW!!! Topaz has done it. VERY imaginative menu, and creative menu. The infustion of flavors, the generous portions and the beautiful presentation made this a wonderful experience for my birthday. The service was fantastic as well. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to anyone who has imagination in their food choices. Great place. Will absolutely return to this fantastic suburban delight!

Finally!!! The suburbs needed a place like Topaz. With the new outdoor patio now open, this is by far the best location outside of Chicago. Not only is the food top notch (the best pork chop of my life), but the ambiance and decor are fantastic. My wife and I had a fantastic time and cannot wait to make it back.

went out for lunch - it's a beautiful location! I was so excited to try it!
I waited at the table for the other members of my party (they ran about an hour late)
waited for 45 minutes for someone to see if I wanted something to drink. once I ordered, it took our waiter an additional 30 minutes toi bring my glass of wine. When the rest of my party arrived, again, it took 20 minutes to place a drink order - no lack of servers in the place, they just couldn;t be bothered. No manager on duty. Food was lackluster, everything was overcooked, poorly seasoned and just not good. With all the great reviews in Chicago magazine, I was expecting something entirely different.

My first time at Topaz was horrible. When you first walk in the Host staff/mgr's were standing in the front and starred at us. Never said hi just asked do you have reservation. when we said we did but we were late for them the gentleman scratched his head and said well i don't know what we can do just go to the bar. it was a tuesday night and there were plenty of open tables. so when we went to the bar the girl was so nice and we told her what happen and she tried to make it better. She went to the mgr and told them that we were a little upseat with attitude that was given to us. when she came back she offered to buy us a dessert. We did notice that the mgr never came to the table at that point we just didn't want to spend our money there. They should get a better grip on the front staff. it's the first impression. Not very good. will never go back.

I dined at Topaz for the first time last week and have already been back twice since. I was, at first, quite reluctant to drive nearly twenty miles from the city just for dinner. However, after my experience I must say the trip was one hundred percent worth it. The group that I was with were all completely impressed with the beautiful interior of the restaurant. The dimly candle lit tables along with a beautiful, elegant dining room give Topaz a very urban feel. My first time I ordered the gnocchi to start served with savory rabbit confit, asparagus, pine nuts in a delicious butter and truffle oil sauce. I highly recommend this dish to any first time diners. At my table, we enjoyed the halibut, a bone-in filet, special striped bass, and the ribe-eye- all of which were prepared perfectly. The chef certainly designed a flawless and well thought out menu with many unique flavor combinations that leave a lasting impression. I also want to mention the bar menu. They offer several smaller dishes that are perfect for sharing if you are not up for a full meal. My favorites were the beef carpaccio and the calamari salad. I cannot say enough great things about this new gem of a restaurant. Topaz is extremely accomodating to each guest and I can say with the utmost confidence that I will be back.

Despite a lush interior, replete with beautiful lighting and gorgeous wooden tiling, Topaz in Burr Ridge neglects what is of paramount importance for an exceptional dining experience- the food. I've visited Topaz five times, and nothing i've ordered has intrigued me. It is middle of the road, unadventurous cuisine that will only satiate uncultivated palates. This is truly a shame. The people in Burr Ridge deserve better, and they surely have the income to support an establishment that provides more innovative and daring cuisine that Topaz musters up. The service is abysmal as well, and I sincerely believe this is because the staff themselves know that the food is very mediocre. They aren't motivated or proud of what they're serving. Vie and Courtright's still grace the suburbs, thankfully, and are far better options that Topaz. In this day and age, where so much is being done with food, it is a shame that places like Topaz still exist and masquerade as fine dining, when in reality they are purveyers of hackneyed and uninspired creations that neither delight or dazzle.

My evening spent at Topaz was absolutely wonderful! Everything from the food to the ambiance to the gracious service to the unique wine selection was superb. I had the scallops... delicious! They are made in an onion ragout and served with Spanish chorizo-- an unlikely combination, but one that should be heavily applauded. I love finding new places to go, and once the outdoor patio opens Topaz will certainly be my new spot. Try the chocolate cake and shake for dessert to finish off an enjoyable summer evening.
