From the owners of Amber in Westmont comes a second gem of a restaurant, Topaz, now open in the new Burr Ridge Village Center. At 6,000 square feet with a covered patio for 100 (expected to open in spring) Topaz is twice as large as its Westmont sibling, but with a similarly urban feel and focus on freshly made dishes. For dinner, executive chef Jose Hernandez (who'll split his time between the two spots) focuses on steaks and chops, with some Northern Italian-inflected specialties as well, such as homemade gnocchi, risotta and pastas. From the dining room, take a look at the prime view of the open kitchen, enclosed in glass walls so you won't hear the clanging of pots or swearing in Italian, says general manager Paul Devitt, who most recently worked with the well-known Atwood Cafe downtown. Hungry shoppers or locals working out at nearby Lifetime Fitness can stop in post-workout for a good burger, steak sandwich or salad at the bar, which features plenty of seating and couches for lounging.
