The Parrot Cage

7059 S. South Shore Drive

Chicago, IL 60649
773-602-5333
William Reynolds, the provost of the Washburne Culinary Institute, heads up this restaurant at the South Shore Cultural Center. Located in a former dance studio, the pastel-hued dining room has direct views of Lake Michigan. Parrot offers a seasonal American menu with global influences, and most entrees are under $20. Choices may include options like a falafel-crusted sea bass and lamb two ways (a grilled chop and braised shank). The dining room and kitchen are manned by students from Washburne (the school has instructional kitchens and classrooms on the third and fourth floors of the Cultural Center). Why the name? Reynolds tells us there are nests of parrots just north of the Cultural Center in Jackson Park (there's a large parrot cage as part of the decor).
