Poor service, bad food, good location

Went with former colleagues for a catch up lunch. We were seated at 11a.m., ordered at 11:15 and didn't get our food until 11:50. There were 2 other tables occupied when we sat down and we all ordered salads. How long do those take to put together? My grilled vegetable salad was soaking in oil/dressing and the chicken on top had no flavor - I had to use so much pepper just to sample a few bites of it. No one else seemed too excited about their salads either - we all left at least half on the plate. Overpriced and really rude, slow service. The waiter didn't even check on us once while we sat there for over a half hour waiting for the salads. When we did ask a question, he answered as if he had better things to do. Would never recommend this place to anyone. Great location but that's about it.

Do yourself a favor and stay away!

Tavern at the Park had a lot of potential...prime location, decent menu, and a sophisticated but approachable atmosphere. However, this was all destroyed by the awful awful management team who seemed more interested in themselves rather than their guests. The pretentious arrogance ranges from hostess to mangement. I did not feel welcomed but shunned by the staff. Quite possibly the most unaccommodating dining experience I've had in a long while. Let's hope the people funding the place can learn to change thier attitudes around.

Rip Off City

For being a preimer lunch spot in such a great location you would think you would have great service and food. The food was terrible and it took over an hour for a couple of salads at lunch time. This place is over priced and overrated.

I loved the food at this place. The waiter helped with a selection of wine that was best with our entree choice...perfect! The food was a little exepnsive but I thought it was worth it!! Will definitely return.

Go to Keefers instead!
By yourstruly from downtown, May 17, 2008

We were a table of 5, and half of us ordered salads and the others, burgers. I ordered the tasteless Asian shrimp salad, that had 3 grilled shrimp and a bland, ginger cilantro dressing. Noisy, crowded surroundings, and apathetic waiter, and poor food. Why go when you can go to Keefers instead!

Best Skirt Steak in Town!
By saragCG from Streeterville, January 3, 2008

Overall rating:

I was here last week with some friends for a holiday meal and had a great experience. Although we waited a bit with a reservation for our table, it didn't matter because the food and service were nearly spectacular. The server recommended the Skirt Steak. He said it was the best thing on the menu and he was right. The green beans were tender crisp and perfectly seasoned. We had the banana split which is actually deep fried! We also had the chicken fondue and calamari. The best part was the birthday dessert. The server, I think his name was Jake, somehow figured out that we had a birthday and brought out a piece of cake after the table was clean. We were all surprised because no one had told any employee that we had a birthday. We usually hate that nonsense, but it was done elegantly without any singing. This is definately the place to go for tasteful celebrations!

Apathetic Hostess
By skeeter from Ravenswood, December 15, 2007

Overall rating:

Fortunately, the apathetic hostess did not ruin what became a delightful evening. when we arrived for our 6:30 p.m. reservation, the place was packed. It was obvious that the after shopping crowd was there dining. When we were seated, close to our specified time, we were seated in the back room far away from the window booth area that I requested when I made the reservation. Although, I was aware that a window seat was not guaranteed when I queried the hostess as to the preferred seating--her response was "Sorry this is all we have available--no table is guaranteed" Well, that' I already knew, but it was obvious that the diners who were sitting at the booths, were mostly not reserved seaters, but shoppers with bags that got the better seating. I think that the mgt should be more concerned with the resvd. table requests . However, the food, waitstaff svc and ambiance made up for it all--delightful!!! However, they need to turn down the heat--way too hot where we were seated.

Great New Restaurant!
By Lori from Old Town, November 29, 2007

Eight of us had dinner last night and it could not have been better. From salads to sandwiches to entrees, everyone really enjoyed their meal. The staff and our waiter could not have been nicer or more attentive. We will definately go back and can't wait to enjoy the roof top patio next summer!

Can't beat Value
By Tills from Northside, November 15, 2007

Overall rating:

This is hands down the best food/service/overall experience for the price! I was sitting there, downtown Chicago, with a blue-cheese crusted fillet, ap, wine, great-looking crowd and a view of Millenium Park for around $50? Can't beat it - I'm definately back.
