Takashi Restaurant: User Reviews
Takashi may not be for everyone, judging by the reviews. My date and I absolutely loved every minute. Had an 8:30 reservation on Friday, walked in, sat immediately. Service was impeccable. Modern but kozy. We both had a fish and it was full of fresh ingredients and the fish was cooked perfect. Again, the service...treated like royalty. We will be back, give it a shot.

I've eaten at Takahi several times. The first time was about a year ago and at that time I thought the restaurant showed great promise. Since that time I have found the food and service to be inconsistent. Sometimes very good and other times marginal.
My last visit, Dec 26, 2008, was a new low for my Takahi experiences. It started with the hostess offering my wife and me a table by the window. When I declined the table and explained that it was too cold for a window seat that was on the same wall as the entrance door she, just short of indignant, replied that there was a heater by the table. Which was my point, that it was not an ideal table for dinner on a blustering, cold, Chicago winter night. However, she did give us a nice table in the upstairs dining room. Our waiter perfunctorily tended our table. As for the food, I ordered a steak that had obviously been frozen for some time and then thawed in a microwave.
Overall our dining experience was very disappointing.
One last point, because the hostess and wait staff can at times appear snooty they should understand that attitude only works when the food is excellent and the service is impeccable.

Food and service were excellent. I highly recommend the seasonal rolls and halibut. Seating is very tight, so expect to make friends with the table next to you. Overall value was decent. Total bill for 2 apps, 2 entrees, 2 dessers, $90 bottle of wine was $200

Went to Takashi on a Thursday night and were asked to sit at the bar while we waited for the last member of our party to arrive(which irritates me). However, the bar was quiet and pleasant, unlike the table upstairs which we were eventually led to. The upstairs room is incredibly loud. The food was OK, nothing extraordinary. Tuna Tartare was bland. Tofu salad was fairly interesting. Entrees were overcooked (I think I had the baramundi). Wine list was limited, but nice. I'd only go back if I could sit downstairs!

After reading and hearing much about Takashi, my friend and I were very excited about
dining here. The room is intimate yet subdued, the service professional but not over-
bearing, and the food phenomenal.
We tried the tuna carpaccio and the corn soup, both excellent. We also tried the scallops, the pork belly, and the chicken in a clay pot. It is difficult to choose a favorite,
as all were exciting and unique dishes. The strawberry consumme for dessert was also delicious
This is a great, unpretentious place to get together with friends for a wonderful evening.

Anthing but fun with big snob appeal!! Would never go bac!!!. After patiently waiting 45 minutes for a reservation, we were crammed into a table. We sat next to an 80 year old man that told us to SHHHHH! The accoustics were ridiculous. You could not hear any music all night. The place went from annolying loud with voices to dead silence at times. It made the whole night awkward and it was not a fun place at all. Although the food is very good, but not good enough to put up with this dull and boring atmosphere. There are so many choices in Chicago that have just as good of food and much more inviting service and atmosphere to offer. Pass on this place unless you are ready for the retirement home.

We looked forward to our reservation at Takashi and wound up sadly disappointed by the experience. Taken together, the combination of being seated long after our reservation time, to the restaurant being out of the wine we chose and the appetizer we chose, to the noise level in the restaurant, to the oppressive temperature downstairs, to the waiter bringing my husband a completely different entree than the one he had ordered, were collectively fatal to our opinion. The food was interesting (appetizer scallops with soba gnocchi were quite tasty) but sometimes disappointing (my fish was downright chewy/tough on the sides of the fillet). We might give it one more run to see if our bad experience was a "fluke" but given the price point of dining here, we'll have to save our pennies first.

Takashi may be my favorite restaurant opening of the last year. The place is intimate and comfortable. This is a great place for dates. The server, the manager and the hostess were all very friendly and helpful and chef Takashi came out to check on us too. The pork belly is one of my all time favorite entrees.

My husband and I went to Takashi recently and we were very sadly dissappointed. We were so excited.. Our waitress and overall service were AWESOME!! We ordered the steak and a fish entree and a few appetizers. The appetizers were fair, the steak was just plain steak, the fish was not fresh and tasted fishy. The desserts were good but nothing special.. We won't be back.

Overall, my husband and I enjoyed this restuarant. The dining rooms (one upstairs and one downstairs) are very intimate. Therefore, I would only suggest this place for a party of 4 people, max. We had two good appetizers and two mediocre appetizers. The seared tuna was espcially tasty. The service was very good. In general, we thought the food was good, but nothing amazing. We both thought it was a little pricey.
