Sweets & Savories: User Reviews
Made a reservation confirmed by email. Called before we went to confirm and they never entered it in the computer. They couldn't find room for us and weren't even apologetic! Had to dine elswhere. They are the most unprofessional management team I have ever seen! They said no they couldn't acommodate us at all! Needless to say they can serve anyone but me. i won't try again at all.

Went here with my boyfriend for our anniversary and had an excellent evening. We made a reservation and were a little skeptical to start because our table was sandwiched between two others, nearly sharing tables. Despite being somewhat squeezed in, the ambiance and kind service made up for it.
I had the vegetable tart which was delicious and so was the pork chop. He started with the foie gras w/ bruleed banana & chocolate sauce and followed that with the superbly cooked strip steak presented underneath and overflowing haystack of frites-- both delish as well although I wasn't crazy for the foie gras. I would definitely recommend the chocolate cornmeal pie for dessert-- such a fun and different texture. We both did the $29 deal and felt that we got much more than our money's worth. For such a high caliber meal and saving on BYOB (no corkage fee!) I was more than willing to shell out $30. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to people that aren't easily frustrated by slightly slower service and are looking for an extended, relaxed meal out. Portions are large so go hungry!

I would describe my experience at Sweets and Savories to be good, but not extraordinary. We started with the French Martini special (I don't remember the exact details but it involved blood orange vodka and Champagne), which was excellent, and then had the "Kobe" burger to follow. It definitely was tasty and satisfyling, although I would have liked the truffle mayo to be a little more pungent. The "warm chocolate fondant cake" was all right, but it was room temp. We expected something warm and gooey. Service was efficient.

My fiance and I recently went here on a Wednesday night for their $29 prix fixe menu.
We read the reviews and had middle-of-the-road expectations going in there. The restaurant looks humble from the outside and we almost missed it, but we were VERY glad we didn't because this is not a place to miss! The restaurant was not very full so the waiter gave us a choice of anywhere we wanted to sit. The service was very good and our waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu , was enthusiastic in helping us make selections, and knew what would pair well with the wine we brought (free BYOB that night).
Every course of the food was AMAZING. No exaggeration there, it made our night. We will definitely be back to try the entire menu. Our favorites of the meal were the baked lobster stuffed artichoke; scallops with pea nage and grits; gorgonzola crusted NY Strip with frites; and the plum clafouti dessert. Our waiter was right in saying we would be back, if only for the frites alone.

I was so excited to try Sweets and Savories on Wednesday nights when the Kobe Burgers are a mere $10. However, when we arrived we were told that there were not enough burgers for us!!! We arrived around 6pm and there were only 3 tables sat. How can you run a special and then turn customers away. There are too many restaurants to choose from. we will NEVER be back!!!

I was very eager to try this place after reading several favorable reviews. A group of my female friends ventured here for our bookclub and the Sunday brunch. The food did not disappoint -- a tremendous value at $19 (includes drink, starter, main and delicious selection of housemade baked goods) -- the arugula salad was divine, the eggs benedict were perfection. However, the service was dismal and snotty. The waiter was less than gracious when I arrived, saying only, "How many? Oh, well, we'll seat you back here.) After all in the party arrived, we waited at least 15 minutes after sitting before we were greeted by the waiter. No offer of coffee from even the bus staff while we waited. I realized then that there was only one waitperson for the restaurant -- and there were 4 active tables seated -- not an overwhelming crowd -- but the waiter was obviously overwhelmed. After we ordered, it was another 10 minutes before our drinks were served -- and they were served AFTER the starter was served). After my friends started complaining, I tried to engage the waiter in polite and sympathetic conversation (asking if someone called in sick, because it seemed too much for one person). He didn't warm up. Was too bad. For what could and should have been a delightful afternoon was oddly stressful and unsatisfying. If the service could match the food quality -- what a gem it would be.

This is now one of my fave restaurants in the city. The food was incredible, especially their fois gras appetizer, burger, escargot gnocchi and fries. Wines are all the same price and very reasonable. Staff were very friendly. Atmosphere warm, cosy and french. Sophisticated menu with unpretentious atmosphere and modest prices. And considering the kind of ingredients which featured in what we ate (fois gras, truffle oil, mussels, escargot, etc), we were very pleasantly surprised when the bill came. $50 per person based on two people sharing: 2 apps, 2 mains, 2 sides, 2 coffees, 1 bottle of wine, 1 dessert. Will definitely be coming back here, and often, and with friends. Great place for a date, or casual relaxed dinner with friends. Apparently Wed nights, their burger is only $10 and Monday nights it's BYOB without corkage. I've also heard their Sun brunch is incredible.

I was very excited to book this reservation, since I'd been hearing about the restaurant for a while. When my party of four arrived, there weren't many other people, but I chalked that up to it being early in the evening. The lady who brought us water was very nice, but our waiter seemed weirdly hostile from the start. The appetizers, a fennel-cured salmon plate and a sweet potato bisque, were delicious. Unfortunately, the entrees weren't up to scratch. Two of us ordered scallops and were later told we'd have to pick another because they were out, which we didn't mind, but the food we got wasn't worth the price. Everything was very, very heavy. My seafood stew was very one-note and my boyfriend's salmon and lentils had such a heavy dose of truffle oil that he couldn't taste anything else. In general, it was pretentious and overpriced fare. The kicker was that we waited for a really long time for the check (and were given a laundry list of specials for every day of the week to come, which was painful since we had no intention of returning), and then the waiter left us alone for another eighteen minutes - with only one other group of diners. We finally got up, brought our check to another waitress, and left.
The one mitigating factor is that the desserts were delicious and the chef sent out an extra piece of pie. This place started as a sweets-only establishment, and I might have liked it better that way.

We went to S&S on Saturday night with 5 of us, ranging in age from mid thirties to mid sixties...and we have a vegetarian with us ... we all did the pre-fix with 2 starters on top of it so we can try a few things that weren't on the menu. The staff were very accommodating and helpful with our selections, and not one of us had a bad bite to eat. The wine list is great also. We have eaten at Alinea to Schwa to Tru and many other greats in other countries and everything in between and think that for $29 bucks you can't go wrong .. absolute value for money .. and the food is outstanding. We will be back and next time with more people ... thanks S&S for keeping it real.

After reading good things about Sweets and Savories my fiance and I decided to give it a try. We consider ourselves food savy people, and the food here did not meet our standards. We felt the prices were high, wine list was weak, food was sub par. It made us wonder who and why are people writing good reveiws about the place. The reveiws for this restaurant are vary misleading. There are plenty of better values and restaurants in the city I would recomend you try anywhere else. Food was not vary imaganitive and not exacuted well at all. Deserts tasted old, and poorly made and presented. The presentations of the food itself were vary juvinile. I would not expect that from a reputable chef.
