This much-lauded spot located in a former bathhouse just west of the intersection of North, Damen and Milwaukee Avenues offers a seafood-dominated new American menu with a strong Japanese influence. Chef-owner Shawn McClain's menu changes frequently to incorporate seasonal ingredients, though favorites such as lemongrass and coconut soup and Maine sea scallops with braised oxtail are here for the long haul. A bar menu featuring sashimi, maki and smaller bites priced by the piece allows for a more casual dining experience; on Mondays, when the kitchen is closed and they crank up the tunes and keep the cocktails flowing in the bar, it's the only thing going. Spring was a James Beard Foundation nominee for Best New Restaurant in America in 2002, and McClain was named Best Chef: Midwest in 2006.
