Sam & Harry's Steakhouse: User Reviews
Had dinner saturday night. Was seated on time. The decor is great. You must ask for Francine's section. She is one of the best waitresses I have ever had. We had the crabcake entree as an appetizer and it was delicious. She had the KC bone in and I had the Delmonico ribeye. Both were cooked as ordered. Very happy with the meal and service. It is a little pricey but is worth it. The manager came by to make sure everything was fine. Look forward to the next visit.

I can't say definatively that this is Chicago's worst steakhouse, but that is simply because I haven't eaten at every steakhouse in the city. While I can't say this is the worst steakhouse, I am positive this place is still in the running for the title.
First let me say the ambiance is quite nice. Very modern and Very Clean. A wonderful space within the convention center. Yet this wonderful space is wasted on an absolutely horrible restaurant.
Steakhouses are unique in the restaurant world. To be a truly great steakhouse, you need very few things other than the best quality steaks and the knowledge of how to cook them. Sam & Harry's has neither. The steaks themselves are unimpressive and it appears the kitchen staff is more qualified for the mass preparations in feeding the convention crowd then they are to handle steaks. And while most steakhouses overcompensate for the lack of creativity involved in cooking a steak by having great side dishes, it appears S&H has decided to let their side dishes flounder along side their poorly prepared steaks.
On top of this, this restaurant actually has the gall to print inaccurate menus. We went on a Thursday night and several of the items on the menu were not available. The waitstaff acted as if these items were specials and it seemed as if they were frequently not on the menu. Well if you are going to have specials, have specials. Don't print a menu which is only accurate half of the time.
But not to be outdone by the steaks, sides, and menu, the waitstaff is clearly prone to high turnover, as ours knew little about the food, the menu, and was, in general, just in a bad mood. Not rude, but certainly not the type you would expect from a high end steakhouse.
I can say if you are truly looking for a great steakhouse, this is not it. There are several far better choices (David Burke's, Chop House, Keefer's) which offer a far better product at the same price. And if you do happen to be in the area for a convention and don't have access to a car, there is a Morton's, (which is literally across the street) where you will be far better served.

Crab cakes were burnt. Onion rings were cold. The service was poor considereing we were the only ones in the restaruant. Glassware and flatware was spotted. Save your money there are other places to eat in Scahumburg.
Report This ReviewOne of the best meals I've indulged on in a long time! Competitive with the Chicago Steakhouse industry in an incredibly unique and beautiful setting. It is a little pricey but a great place to spoil yourself (or others). The icing on the cake is the attentive and professional service you recieve and the HUGE wine selection....Will be back!!!! Thanks
Report This ReviewGreat food, great service
Report This ReviewSteaks were amazing. Sides (mushrooms and au gratin potatoes) were spectacular. The tuna appetizer was a bit over cooked, but fine. It's expensive, but definitely worth the money. I'll be back!
Report This ReviewI went there for my 4yr Anniversary tonight. We were greeted with a glass of champagne, and a great table. We indulged with a Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, Crab Legs, & a "BEEF LOVER" Filet. Service was absolutely "TOP NOTCH" and being a Tuesday night it was an extremely peaceful experience. Wine Selection was great! We received a Gift Certificate for X-Mas which is how we discovered this wonderful place. Its very close to my house and I will be joining them again very soon. There's still more than 5 "CUTS" of meat on the menu to try and will just have to try them all!!!
