Awesome food.. but at the bar the only fill the glasses half full and the prices are a little steep!!!

Check out Al Capones sercret hiding spot!! Totally cool!

The only thing that can make this place better is getting a better staff. Only person nice was the hostess, waitress forgot half the food for our party of 18 and didnt earn the tip we gave them...

Gem of south loop

I was not expecting much from a south loop restaurant, but was very pleasantly surprised. I thought the interior was very cool and the patio was spectacular. The service, from hostess to server, was very good as was the food. I started with the mussels and a peach salad, both good! My entree was trout with a butter sauce and capers and it was great. This place is definitely worth checking out.

Room 21: Better Than Most

My wife and I continually bring friends here and we are continually impressed. If you want filet mignon for the price of a bagel, you'll never be happy - here or anywhere else!!! But if you know about food and enjoy the fun and energy of the Kleiner trademark restaurant, you won't be happier anywhere else.

The ribeye has never been less than perfect, and the manager Josh, couldn't be more accomodating.

A winner in every respect!

Kleiner does it again

I have been back multiple times and it keeps getting better. The new chef is a fine addition to an already fantastic dining experience. The outdoor garden is amazing. The ambiance, the service, the valet, everything is what you have come to expect from this upscale restauranteur. The Monday night price fixed dinner is the best deal in Chicago.

Absolute worst Kleiner restaurant & terrible service
By brandenburg82 from South Shore, May 17, 2008

Boring food; slow service. I recently dined there on a Friday night with a group of six. First, we had to ask three times over the period of 30 minutes to just get a bottle of wine. Throughout the evening the service was very slow and the waiter practically ignored the table (although the tip of 18% was included with the bill). The food was OK, but you expect more than OK when you have a bill of $600.00. There is nothing that stands out about this restaurant, especially considering the price point. The restaurant needs a new chef to come up with a more inspired menu. The space has so much possibility, but the food and service is lacking.

VERY DISAPPOINTED

Love the space and Love the service. But, this is the second and last time I will dine here. Ordered app. of Avacado & Lump Crab, first time it came out with only crab strings in it and the second time it came out with alot of Lump Crab only to send it back the Crab was expired. The server took it away, that was fine. Then we order a Wedge which was great with the homemade blue cheese dressing. Can't mess that up and I had a $11 Heirloom and Mozzerella Salad. Well, the tomatoes where soft and NO taste and the Mozz was stiff like it was sitting in the frig to chill way to long. I still ate it, not sure why. My friend had mussels for dinner and those where really tastey and flavorful. I had the Flank Steak with Chimicurri Sauce. The Sauce was spicy and great. Steak had NO flavor. But, they did cook it Med Rare like requested. I guess if you are going to a Jerri Kliner place you expect more. Guess that may be why the place was over half empty.

Love Redlight & Opera. But, this place needs a new menu or chef. Oh, I almost forgot to thank them for the one glass of wine and cup of coffee. Nice recovery.

Totally overpriced

The food was so-so. My filet was decent but I had it oscar style and it was over powered with chives or something similar to that. Calamari was bar quality. BBQ sliders were apparently good. Everyone's meal was just ok. If you are going to have a 300$ dinner it better be more than just ok. If you are headed to the South Loop Chicago Firehouse is a better bang for you buck. We were very excited for Room 21 and the cool ambience but to be honest we were really disappointed and felt that the quality of food we received did not measure up to the prices at all.

Cindy Lou Hoo should eat here

On the recommendation of a friend, we decided to try Room 21. We started our Friday evening with cocktails at the bar. One cosmo & one cocktail later We were given a $25 check. Quite steep for the small drinks that they serve. We were then seated at our table. A beautiful 4 top in the center of the room. What a room it is! I felt like I was in a cartoon. The decor is certainly fun. The one thing we did not enjoy was the music. It was extremely loud with a constant pounding. This alone would stop me from coming back. My biggest complaint, though, was the service. As nice as everyone was, it was just too slow. I don't know if they were short of help or if everyone just didn't know what they were doing, but it took forever to get anything! The food was good, but with the noise and service problems, it just wasn't worth going back.

Waiter took for ever to come. Appitizers took for ever to come. The food was regular. The fish was a bit fishy. The coffee was cold and when we reordered it, one of the cups was DIRTY.

It do not have something unique
By Enjoygoodfood from Bucktown, February 17, 2008

I have been at Marche, Red Light and Carnivale and I did not find any difference with Room 21 dining experience. It has a similar interior design that the other restaurants and the food did not surprice me. I will not return to this restaurant because it did not show me the intrinsic value that you receive at a place that is unique and give you an extra value for your money. If you have not been at the other restaurants from this company, probably you would think that Room 21 is good. However, I greatly prefer Carnivale or Red Light. I hope that they will take advantage of the huge patio during the summer. Life music and special events cool bring some kick to this place. Good Luck guys.
