Province: User Reviews
A group of 4 of my friends went here on a recommendation for a birthday. We were not disappointed. From the excellent list of wines at great prices to the selections of our appetizers and entrees we were beyond satisfied. Cynthia, our amazingly friendly server, was helpful in our wine selection and even got to know us well enough to offer us birthday shots vs. cake for dessert. I will definitely go back for more.

We went here for my birthday dinner, 6 in our party. From the moment the disgruntled waitress came to our table, this was an unpleasurable experience. Having been a waitress in hotels and restaurants for years, I am usually quite understanding. This was beyond rude. The food was dry and unimpressive. We were told that we could not order appetizers without ordering our main course, that chef would only "allow" us to order all at once. The waitress was frequently even rolling her eyes at my guests. They were not willing to be very accomadating in terms of the menu so if you have any dietary restrictions, this is not the place for you.
It was quite a disappointing experience. I would NOT recommend this restaurant. I have never written a review for a restaurant before, but I thought that this experience merited a review.

My wife and I had dinner at Province last night. The food was excellent and the service was great. Great place to go in the West Loop.

Beware if you're trying to dine at Province with groups of 8 or more. They WILL NOT allow you to order off their normal dinner menu. Instead, they create a fixed price menu where you are provided with an assortment of what they have to offer. Initially we were told it was because it's easier for the kitchen to handle larger groups. Once we saw through that ridiculous reasoning it was because the Chef wants to create a great experience for larger groups. Despite expressing our dissatisfaction and unhappiness to both managers on duty, neither was willing to throw out the fixed price menu and extend to us the courtesy of ordering off their full menu like every other table in the restaurant. As a result, we left and took our $600 down the street to Sepia where they bent over backwards to accomodate our group and we had a great dining experience.

Had dinner for the first time at Province. Really great atmosphere, hip & casual. Great service, unique menu options. I had the Tasmanian salmon which was excellent. Also had the Chicken Tortilla soup which was equally as good. Very affordable and a good wine list. Definitely plan on going again!

This meal was a disaster. The waiter didn't know what he was serving or where it was from and when asked - he astonishingly made things up. On top of that they told us they ran out of gin (which is a key ingredient in 1/2 their signature drinks) then mysteriously had it again. The food was really not good. Rabbit confit - was not confit, it was shredded meat served cold. The deconstructed sandwich was small and dull. Appetizers were either bland or oversalted. The only stars were the desserts - particularly the excellent sorbets - but by that time the damage was done.

Our party of 4 had dinner at Province Friday night and loved it! The menu is great, I love that you can order smaller portions of the bigger items on their menu as well, really gives you a chance to try everything. The decor is gogeous and the staff incredible, our waitress knew everything about the menu and made some great recommendations. Can't wait to go back!

Interesting menu and some quality choices, but the service...or lack thereof, was quite disappointing. There were 6 of us and after cocktails, we had ordered one bottle of wine & were never asked if we wanted another. And just like an earlier reviewer, peple walking all around us and yet, my water glass was not filled and I had to take someone else's water at our table. The first course came and 2 of our diners ordered the same thing, no one explained their food came on the same plate.
I would go back for the food, but only if I knew the service had improved.

You can work your way thru this menu and spend a lot and have a special evening or just enjoy some great tastes and leave feeling good about the pricing. Lots of options here and they all taste great. The salmon, while not a huge portion, was very flavorful and crispy on the outside with a nice firm flesh. Side dishes were just right for two and the service was attentive without disrupting. Go there, your taste buds will thank you.

I just returned from a wonderful dining experience at Province. I don't get out as much as I would like, so when I do I expect a lot. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming as soon as we walked in. We got seated right at out reservation time, so right away we were off to a good start. Our server was very friendly, and helped us navigate the menu. About half our part were vegetarians, and she was very helpful and knowledgeable about what could be adapted to out tastes and needs.
We started off with the squash taquito, and they were incredible- very flavorful. Some of us had the Tortilla soup, which was nice since it is a vegetable based soup. A bit small, but filling. The Caesar salad was was incredible, and the fondue rich and hearty. My brother-in-law enjoyed the Sable Ceviche, while my sister was pleasantly surprised by the blood orange salad.
For the bigger dishes, we split the lamb and the Spanish Rice. The lamb was very tender, and full of flavor. My wife thought the rice was an excellent option for vegetarians. We shared a few deserts, and they were alright, but nothing out of the ordinary.
I would recommend Province to everyone. It was a wonderful dining experience that included a warm atmosphere, delicious food and attentive staff.
