Orange: User Reviews
Orange

Went here with a party of 7 on New Years Day. The restaurant wasn't that busy, but the host had trouble envisioning putting tables together so we waited 1 and 1/2 hours. Then, we waited 20 minutes to get coffee (which tasted burnt). Then, we froze because the restaurant is drafty. Then, because I was starving, I ordered a smoothie thinking it would ease the hunger pains. A complete rip off because it is 8 ounces of juice with a teaspoon of yogurt. The menu is really interesting and sounds delicious, but nothing is served as it is described. Expensive ingredients are used sparingly--i.e., goat cheese, mushrooms. The waitress repeatedly apologized for her bad service but never actually made up for it. And sadly, I wasn't even full after I left. The only person who liked their food ordred the 4 styles of pancakes (which looked really good too). This is the most poorly run restaurant I have ever been to; don't fall for the fun menu it is where the fun ends.

My finace and I have been going to orange for a few years now, even in its awful state as dinner place where the smell from decomposing fruit made us gag. This should have been enough, right? No, my fiance LOVES the steak and eggs there, so on Thursday morning (when we didn't have to wait over an hour for eggs!) we gave it another chance. What a mistake!
We had to wait forever for our waiter so we ordered everything when we finally were graced with his presence. My coffee comes and it is the orange type that I dislike and didn't order. This wouldn't have been too bad, except that out waiter didn't even glace our way for another 20 minutes. I need my coffee in the morning, so I was about to walk to Dunkin Donuts and get better coffee there! When our breakfast comes, my fiance's was great, but the kitchen had forgotten the tortillas under my huevos rancheros, but again couldn't mention it because our waiter was missing until about half of my meal was gone! The only redeeming thing was that he did take all my items off of the bill. But I certainly won't be hurrying back! There are many better places for eggs!

I had heard about the "best brunch in Chicago" for a couple of years now. I went there with my wife and another couple, and we waited over an hour. The first thing you read on the menu is "no substitutions, if you want a make your own omelette go to the something with Golden in the name" Well, I have eaten at Golden Apple and Golden Nugget, and both are better than Orange. I was just disappointed in the menu and the food. The service was o.k. with the exception of them gettting one of our dishes wrong and we had to wait 20 min for a new one.
The only positive, the host and the server were very nice and the pancake flight was unique and good! I would not go back for brunch. Maybe my expectations were way too high.

One of my favorite brunches in the city! The pancake flights are always something to look forward to. Also the fresh juice keeps me coming back. Only complaint is the wait. Suggest coming very early to beat the crowds... otherwise you might be haning out on the sidewalk for a good hour or two

I've been here a couple of times and everytime the food has been delicious! The first time I came, there were four of us and we each had a bite of each other's food and loved every single dish. Now everytime I come with a friend we order a couple of dishes and share. You can't have just one! On a weekend it was packed with over an hour wait. On weekdays when I go, there may not be a wait but service seems to be a little slower that usual. I definitely come for the food!

I'm a big fan of going in every couple of months to check out the new pancake flight. It is a very unique and creative idea that other brunch places aren't doing. Also, the orange coffee can't be beat! Big fan.

I love their french toast, fruit sushi, freshly squeezed juices (not the sound that accompanies), and basically anything I have ordered. Not crazy about the egg dish with balsamic reduction of some sort...not very flavorful. But I always bring friends from out of town here! Lots of great options. And if their is a wait for a bit, walk down the street and window shop.

I first saw this place on the Food Network for a Giada special and noticed they had Frushi- fruit sushi- and was totally intrigued. Their pancakes were outstanding and their green eggs and ham were delish. Would definitely go again, but might want to try the downtown location to see what the difference it. The space was a little cramped/crowded.

Worst brunch in the city. All the rest of the reviews are correct. The only good thing about the 75 minute wait was the champagne and vodka that we had ready when we finally got to our table that we brought. Although it took another ten minutes to get disgusting "tomato juice" and orange juice, we were already ready for a let down. The food was disgusting. Their orange rosemary freshtoast looked looked half cooked and was more a stew than toast. Their pancakes were mediocre and their service was horrific. Two words for you....Le Peep. Ten times better food, ten times better service and way more worth the money. We have been to a ton of restaurants in the city and have seen teh good and the bad. This is at the bottom. Not worth the hype.

I've been to Orange once with some friends and didn't have any problems with the service. My friends' food was fantastic, but my Thai omelete was mediocre. Then, my fiancee and I went into Orange at about 10 minutes until 2 one day, which is apparently their closing time even though it is posted as 2:30, and there was no one there to seat us, soy a bus boy took us to our seat and gave us menus. Several minutes passed, and a couple waitresses walked by a few times. I'm pretty sure they noticed us because they shot us rude glares each time they passed. Finally our waitress appeared and accused us of "sneaking in." She told us they were closed (which they weren't when we got there!) and snapped at us to hurry up and order before they closed the kitchen. We felt like we were imposing on her valuable time, so we decided to give the poor girl a break and walked out!!! I will not return!
On a lighter note, I have to say that Orange in Roscoe Village is fantastic!
