Geneva's hidden gem

I have been a repeat customer of Nosh since early 2008. Two things set this restaurante apart. The first is that the quality for price value of the meals you get are excellent in comparison to many other places in the area. The second reason, their IS NO other place like this in the area. Mike has done a great job of bringing the city to the suburbs. An original breakfast menu and truly inspired dinner menu sets this spot a cut above the rest. You can tell with almost all the dishes the truly creative flairs of Chefs Dave Nelson and Chrissie Erwin. I love the fact that somethings new for dinner each week, yet several of my favorites will remain. I had never been to a "tapas" style joint like Nosh, and it's definetly a must to bring a few friends. Sometimes you want to grab something off a friend's plate, but you don't; here you're supposed to! My only concern with Nosh is the location sets it off the "main drags" in Geneva, so it's relatively easy to overlook if you don't know about it. I figure I'll do my part and put the word out!

Excellent and Diverse

My girlfriend and I recently tried Nosh's dinner menu, as we'd heard great things about its lunch/breakfast but just don't have the opportunity for those. The concept of shared dining is a fun way to try new options, while also offering the chance to sample some tried-and-true items, such as pea soup (very good). The pear-flavored polenta is highly recommended, as are the steak tips. The menu apparently changes routinely, but I feel confident in suggesting Nosh as a great Geneva dinner option.

Also, and this may apply to relatively few, Nosh's staff were very accomodating and knowledgeable about allergy sensitivities, gluten, peanut and otherwise. While this is not entirely unheard-of in other areas of Chicago, such an awareness has proven difficult to find in the suburbs, and Nosh's staff were excellent in this and all regards!

If you're looking for an interesting, eclectic mix of staples and more-adventurous fare, Nosh is well worth a visit.

Too hard to ignore...

...the crabcakes benedict. Need I say more? The menu at Nosh is absolutely unique and every dish we've ordered there has been well-executed. We've always been treated warmly by the staff. My wife pays special attention to small details - like getting your toast while it's still hot, getting quality coffee, etc... She enjoyed our first visit so much that she bought them a gift (a book entitled Nosh that she found while on vacation). My 6-year old daughter loves the food as well and looks forward to getting a toy from their treasure chest. Truly a refreshing change from your typical breakfast joint.

My family and I have been here several times since they've opened. It's nice to have some interesting choices for breakfast. We've enjoyed the eggs benedict crabcakes, the fritatas, and especially the pears with brie. The Mother's day brunch buffet was great. Not the usual dried out dishes you find at most buffets. Small but delicious. Leave room for the desserts. Best Bloody Mary's around! We have never had anything but great service.

Unfortunately, we have to disagree...

Unfortunately, we have to disagree with the rave reviews. The food was mediocre at best and the service was very slow and unprofessional. How could a simple breakfast take 45 minutes to make...and come out cold? While we enjoyed the city-feel of the decor, it is not enough of a reason to return. Save your appetites...there are much better breakfast places to vist. We choose to put up with the corny-country decor at Egg Harbor for the quality of the food.

Early risers this place is for you. Breakfast for lunch or lunch at lunch, outdoor seating, and quick friendly wait staff to ensure you get treated better than your food can satisfy. Aim for those bottomless pancakes at breakfast or brave the spicy spinach ensalada for lunch with chicken or shrimp. For the mundane sandwich type there is the Huntington Beach turkey club or steak sandwich, sorry no burgers allowed! For tasty bites a step above the rest for a cost no more than $10, with a slight urban casual chatter, Nosh feels like home in Geneva at 211 James St .

These owners have done something...

These owners have done something very unique - a menu that features a hybrid of California/Chicago bistro fare. My lunch experiences are fair priced and well prepared with quality ingredients.

Wonder what they could do for dinner?

This is a great place...

This is a great place to bring family or friends. This breakfast/lunch place is hip and trendy with a very interesting menu. The staff is fun and friendly and dressed very trendy with brightly colored patterned aprons that are just adorable. Our server helped us through the menu and told us some of her favorites which happened to be the migas, which was awesome. They also have delicious salads that are just to die for. Great food, great service I would highly recommend it. I definitely have found my new favorite restaurant.
