I frequent the J Alexander's in Lincoln Park on Clybourn and the food and service is outstanding. I've liked everything I've ever ordered but I have to give a shout out to the RIBS! Seriously the best kept secret in Chicago. Way better than 99% of the places out there that claim to be rib joints. Steaks and salads are also amazing too, just an all around great restaurant.

I visit this restaurant regularly because I can count on having a good meal there and the management and staff always makes me feel welcome. The atmosphere is pleasant and the menu has numerous offerings for anyone's tastes. Great selection of wine and beer. Plenty of parking surrounding the building.

11 of us went on a Tuesday night. The overall service was excellent. Food was great, great atmosphere. The Manager, I believe his name is Cory, is a perfect example of excellent customer service. I will go back again and again. Thank you J. Alexander's for a great evening.
Report This ReviewIf you like a comfortable atmosphere for dining, this is the place- very cozy. Service was outstanding. We couldn't decide on 3 wines, so our waiter (Keith?) brought us a sample of each and put it in the middle of our table, didn't tell us which was which, and waited there for us to choose the tastiest. If possible, the service got better. This kind of attention was a breath of fresh air. The food was good as my wife enjoyed the filet bracco-served on huge plates, but my salmon special was boring- just a filet on a plate with rice- and $23. The bar was crowded and noisy- kind of a hang out area and the $24 we spent on 2 drinks w/tip was too much-as are most of the prices here. Come for the dining atmosphere and the impeccable service.
Report This ReviewWhen you walk in, your immediately taken- large bar stuck in the middle of 2 quaint, darkened dining rooms. Nice atmosphere, although the bar is overly crowded and too busy looking (next to kitchen). It's strength is the great, friendly service- wonderful. The food was good-not great, but still tasty. The problem was the value. The Salmon special was a simple, small filet with a scoop of rice ($22-$23?- is that all you can do?)- over-priced, as were most of the entrees. What got me was the $24 tab for a martini and a (cheap)bourbon and soda at the bar (w/tip). Would be 4 stars except for value. We should get good service and food- don't make us pay for it Alexanders. You're almost tops- don't take advantage. Thanks.
Report This ReviewI was so stressed out from work that I had to get away. Didn't want to drive all the way downtown esp Friday night, so my husband and I decided to come here. The ambience was great, cherry wood everywhere, very New York and crowd was upscale after work yuppies. The server was excellent, very attentive but not overboard. Our drinks were great while we waited at the bar. Short wait and loved the fact most of the seating were booths. For appetizers we ordered the calamri, superb and cooked just right. For dinner, I had the New York strip and my husband had the lime chicken. Both were done very well and extremely tasty. We just couldn't make it for dessert because we were stuffed. The bill was reasonable for the caliber of the restaurant about $60 without drinks. Overall a great night and I'd definitely go back!
