Grand Lux Cafe

I have always been a fan of the good ole Cheesecake Factory so it is no surpise that I love the Grand Lux. With a huge dining room and a view of Michigan Ave what more can you really ask for when casual dining in the city? The portions and menu are similar to Cheesecake Factory - very generous! I think everything was going good when we arrived and then I noticed on the menu Baked to Order Desserts! I ordered the New Orleans Beignets and at the end of a very large meal a basket of hot fresh Beignets appeared with chocolate, caramel and rasberry dipping sauces. That sealed the deal and made it official - we will be back for more!

I had always been eager to try this place considering i wasn't impressed by the Cheesecake Factory. To my surprise, it was a good experience. The staff was friendly and courteous even when i asked for directions to the restroom. The food was exceptionally good and very affordable. The view is awesome, I always pass by those big windows and you can actually see a lot when you're sitting by one. I'm not big on sweets but the cookies were also fabulous and I will definitely go back.

I've been here a few times and it is always good. The sourdough bread and butter is yummy as are the telephono pasta, sunday pasta, broccoli cheddar soup, and roasted pineapple upside down cake. The prices are quite reasonable and the service is good. When I was there on Saturday night the person next to us proposed to his gf, it was so sweet. The view over Michigan Ave is absolutely amazing and although the wait is usually long, it is well worth it.

I wish they would change the loud, repetitive music. We go there a lot as we live within walking distance. Their fish, shrimp, and schnitzel are all very good. But the music never changes. It sounds the same as the music in The Cheesecake Factory. Also, what is with no prices on any of the mixed drinks? Still, this place is a great value, especially for the location.

My sister was in town and we went to Grand Lux last night. Everything was amazing! She had the Mahi Mahi and Apple Pie for dessert, and I had the Mushroom Goat Cheese Pizza with the Molten Lava Chocolate for dessert. First and foremost, the flavors are out-of-this-world; and second, the portions are extraordinarily large!!!!! You could taste every delicious ingredient used to accent. The fish blended perfectly with the bed of mashed potatoes it was sitting on. The mushrooms and goat cheese merged to a rich, sweet balance. We were in heaven! Service was very good, decor was unique and well designed, music was pleasant and at a good volume. I believe it was a great value. I’ve just added Grand Lux to my top 5 favorite restaurants in Chicago!

This is in the top three places i would choose to eat at everyday,
from the food, to the service to the view, this place has it alll....
for being in the middle of downtown, you would think it would cost
a fortune, but it really doesnt, theres only a handful of grandlux's
in the country, so it definetly does not have cliche feeling of olive garden,
or on the borders.=]

The Grand Lux is just that...Grand. The service was impressive, the food is the freshest that I tasted out a restaurant in a long time. I ordered the bacon, ham, egg and cheese sandwich, that comes with mayo, but I ordered it without and wasn't disappointed. The eggs were so perfectly cooked that the sandwich didn't come across dry at all even though I opted not to dress it.
I appreciated how the waiter told us when we first sat down that desserts are made to order & would take 30min. so that we knew to order it when we ordered our meal so it wouldn't seem like we waited long for it. Ordered the Molten Chocolate cake with ice cream, was perfection but I wasn't quite ready for all the oozing fudge that comes out the minute u put your fork in it, but that was my bad.
I'd recommend this place to anyone, and anytime there's a restaurant suggestion for when we go out to eat this one is first on my list.....also very reasonable priced for the quality.

My wife and I ate here for brunch one Saturday morning, and we enjoyed it very much! There was a good selection of meals, breakfast was offered until early afternoon, and the decor and view (overlooking Michigan Ave.) were great! The food was also very tasty, and it was served in just the right portions.

Great food...great atmosphere...great prices...great menu selection...great staff! I have dietary needs(I am a vegan) and was extremely impressed that the waitress went out of her way to find out specific ingredients in dishes that I was intersted in and really helped me to find a great dish that I could enjoy! We will definately be back!

I went to the grand lux to celebrate my 21st birthday with dinner before hitting the club up later on...the wait was really long i think it was about 45 minutes to an hour before we thought about getting to a table...but once we got to a table everything was good...we had a window seat so we looked down on michigan ave. and the music also added to the overall occasion for me too...i ended up having the Chicken royale and she had a pan seared salmon i think it was...and for dessert Beingets (sp?) which were also pretty good too...all in all i spent $60 for two meals a glass of wine and dessert which i was definately happy with and im looking forward to returning soon
