Glenn's Diner: User Reviews
Glenn's Diner

Eleven City Diner is a little closer to my new place, so I usually go there, but I STILL manage to make it back to Glenn's regularly. I can't get enough of the barbeque chicken. Their homemade sauce is positively delightful. The price is right. There are options for everyone, and the staff is always professional.
Love it!

Had dinner the first time with a group for apps and drinks-it was great. After seeing the menu I knew I had to get back for the seafood specials. I brought in a client who has dined in the world's best dining rooms; not easy to impress. After he had the crabcake and fresh halibut special he told me it was one of the best seafood entrees he had-ever. When I see my client he always mentions Glenn's. Service was very good. Chef Dave keeps servers up to speed so they really know the menu and can advise based on individual tastes. Prices are reasonable and Glenn works the floor and is quite friendly to regulars and newbies alike. If you like fresh seafood, you will LOVE Glenn's DIner.

After what we thought was yet another failed attempt to eat at Glenn's, wandering in at 4pm only to find out they were booked even that early, we had such a great surprise. The host initially turned us away but then actually followed us to our car to tell us he could seat us. We had just said "that's it." We were never going to go back. I mean, a reservation, at a 'diner?!' Well, now I understand. We had the most fabulous, tasty, economical meal. And the service matched. We are so thankful to that host. What a truly great dining experience we had. We ate a LOT of delicious food; crab cakes, soup, trout, barbecue chicken... And they had Peanut Butter Cap'n Crunch on the wall! Definitely going back, with friends, with a reservation.

My family has been going to Glenn's since he opened more than 3 years ago. It's truly a great neighborhood spot with freindly staff and great seafood offerings. The Pretzeled Walleye and Sturgon in a can't stop eating it cream mushroom sauce are favorites. If we're doing fish, the comfort food is great. My favorite is a bone-in pork chop on a bed of cornbread and shrimp stuffing drizzled with maple syrup. There are also drop-dead breakfast specials on the weekends. The Trout-hash and New Orleans Scramble are my 2 favorites. We usually bring our own wine for dinner, but the Bloody Mary is a must have if you're doing a weekend breakfast. I always call ahead for a reservation when possible just to make sure we can get in. Tuesday niights all-you-can-eat crab legs always has a full house, but the summertime outdoor seating helps with some extra seating flexibility.

Several people over the last few months have receommended Glenn's, so the 4 of us decided to check it out within the last week...the meal was average and the service was friendly. I can't say that we were blown away by anything inparticular, so it wasn't an Amazing experience as many people tout. The overall value was average as well. Perhaps we'll give it another shot to see what everyone has been raving about, perhaps we caught them on an average night.

Glenn's Diner has consistently presented the most memorable and delicious meals I've enjoyed in Chicago. The catfish poor boy was a particularly outstanding lunch. The all you can eat peel and eat shrimp special on Thursdays is amazing. Don't miss the crab special on Tuesday!! The best, tastiest, sweetest crab I've ever eaten. I love this place and highly recommend that anyone that appreciates food check this place out. It is the GREATEST!!

I love the Food Network, especially Diners, Drive In's and Dive's. Just happened to be watching the episode where Glen's Diner was visited. My wife and I live in Nashville and try to get to Chicago a couple of times a year just to have a fun weekend. We always stay downtown and eat in the area. After seeing the Glen's segment on the show I figured we should try it out. Man, what a cool place. Called to see about reservations and they could not have been nicer. Took the train from downtown, which was the brown line that literally puts you at Glen's door step. Got there at noon on a Sunday and got seated immediately. The place was packed by the way. Waiter was there just as quickly and was great. My wife had the French Toast, which is available with just about any type of bread imaginable. I had the Fresh Crab Eggs Benedict. Both the French Toast and Eggs Benedict were fabulous. This place rocks!

The mussels were so bad they ought to be embarrassed to serve them. My swordfish was like a hockey puck; super dry and rock hard. I am not one to leave food on my plate but I had no choice at this dive. I will never, ever even consider going back. Glenn's Diner is a terrible restaurant. Red Lobster is better.

the first time my bf & I went to Glenn's, we had friendly, attentive service, and the food was wonderful. we returned a few weeks later, excited by our new find, & it was like a totally different restaurant. I spent half of my meal with an empty cup in front of me, since no one bothered to refill it, & our waitress could not have been less interested in taking care of us! she was either hung over (it was a Sunday) or just lacking in any kind of pleasentry skills. she took our order & never came back until she dropped off the check, not even asking if we wanted anything else. she spent a ton of time with the table next to ours, who had a baby - not sure if she knew them or was just kissing up by playing with the baby, but we couldn't get her attention. it made me think my first visit was just a fluke, & I won't go back, even though it's less than a mile from my apartment. it's too expensive to have such awful service.

I called at 10:30 in the morning and inquired about coming in at 5:30 for 2 people. I was advised that I would not need a reservation. When I got to the restaurant at 5:30 I was told that I could not be seated until 9:30pm. I advised the hostess of my call and she said there was nothing she could do. I asked to talk to the manager. Instead I got the owner Glenn who advised that he answered all the calls that morning...but not my call. WHATEVER. He kept asking whom I spoke to. Is it really my responsibility to know whom on their staff gave me misinformation? Why is the onus on the paying customer? He repeated that there was nothing he could do. Of course that wasn't true as he is the owner and could of seated my small party of 2. THIS GUY WAS NOT PROFESSIONAL AT ALL. He stated that he had parties of 7 and 10 coming in shortly. The entire restaurant may hold 50 people and he only had 3 two person tables open...but not one for my party. I truly believe it was GLenn who advised that I did not need a reservation because if he had taken my reservation for 2 he might not of been able to take larger (meaning more $$$) parties. If this is supposed to be a neighborhood restaurant some tables should be not spoken for so the community can enjoy the restaurant. I will never go back again and will advise my community association of the poor service I received here at our next meeting.
