refreshing change

unlike the experience of some of the other reviewers, we had a great time at FLIGHT. We have dined at all the other venues in The Glen, and none compare. Talk about prompt friendly service, Great wine selection and excellent food. Most of the staff has been there in excess of two years, a rarity in the restaurant business. We had friendly conversation from the time we walked in at the hostess stand, to the frequent visits from the knowledgable server. I'm not sure if it was a wine steward or manager that stopped by, but his wine knowledge was impressive. They serve an amazing varitey of boutique wines, and you can purchase direct from the restaurant at retail prices. I know this because I found several of their offerings at local discount wine stores that were charging more money. Great atmosphere, we went to the bar after dinner and met several other nice couples. What a great night.

terrible service, badly-prepared food
By ww from evanston, June 18, 2009

What a disappointment! I went for a friend's birthday -- we were seated promptly, then promptly ignored. Finally our drink orders were taken and drinks arrived - then we waited nearly 30 minutes for the waiter to return, even though we'd said we were ready to order when the drinks were delivered. Food came swiftly enough, but some was underdone, some was overdone, and we didn't have an opportunity to mention it because NO ONE EVER CAME BY TO ASK US HOW THINGS WERE. Not once. No water refills. No nothing. Food was not well-prepared and service was nonexistent -- if you're looking for a place to be ignored, where you can pay nearly $100 for the privilege, Flight is for you. Otherwise, save your money and go somewhere you might have an enjoyable evening.

Not bad if you're in the area.
By Erica from Chicago, February 25, 2009

There are several dining areas and 2 large fireplaces which are beautiful and definitely warmed up the cold night. The best part is that the wine list offers every wine in a variety of sizes (taste (1.5 oz), flight (3oz), glass (6 oz), bottle), so you can mix and match. The food is described better than executed. Unfortunately, it was pretty much hit or miss with the 5 plates we tried (no entrees this time). The fries appetizer is great and enough for 4; the 3 aiolis were super flavorful. The burger trio was the most disappointing. The lamb was quite good but the meatloaf was burnt and the pulled pork had no zing from the bland jalepeno slaw. The buns were uninspired and overwhelming for the meat. Scallops were good and the tuna tartare in wonton cones (shades of French Laundry) was fun. Server was knowledgeable about wine and friendly and enthusiastic. I'd go again to snack and drink and hope to get lucky on the meal but not for the food per se.

After trying most of the suburban restaurants what an amazing surprise to find Flight. This is a restaurant that oozes city. The food and wine are unparalleled. I had a spinach salad to start which featured an entire egg lightly battered and fried and a great homemade bacon dressing. I followed with a terriyaki cedar plank salmon...wow, not easy to differentiate between salmons, but they pulled it off. My date had the sea bass which is garnished with a cucumber and tomato salad,,,talk about fresh. what a great experience, their wine and food pairing knowledge escapes most but i noticed. Most restaurants triple retail pricing at least, but i recognized several wines at 1.5 to 2 times retail. They seem to encourage wine drinking by not gauging, big thumbs up

So glad I went back

I would have agreed with the other reviews in the past, but my recent visit to flight completely changed my mind. The new menu is less fancy and offers something for everyone. The staff was very friendly and the service was great. There are also some great deals on the wine list. So glad that I gave flight another chance.

Great Place, Great Wine

I was truly impressed by the warm, knowledgable staff and the incredible variety of wines that were available by the glass, half bottle, and bottle. My meal was very good, and the wines that my server and the "wine guy" suggested were fantastic. Is the service at the level of fine dining? No, it was more casual and friendly, just as I think it should be. I will definitely dine here again and bring my friends.

Service Couldn't Be Worse
By JFN from suburbs, January 21, 2008

Our party of six dined here over the weekend. Our young server couldn't have been worse. The appetizers came out well before our drink order. One of us ordered soup, which came out on time. But when the dinners came, this diner did not get his dinner because the server thought "he might want to wait because he had soup." This dinner came out about 30 minutes after the other dinners, which were all finished by that time. The manager was somewhat apologetic, but seemed incredulous of our concerns. To be fair, he gave us a gift card. However, when we moved over to the bar after dinner, the service problems continued, with the bartender more interested in dishing with the other staff than in serving drinks. He took our order then proceeded to chat away. When we asked him aout the delay, he didn't bother to apologize. I like the food at Flight, but the arrogance and ineptitude of the wait staff and management were a total turn-off.

If Flight were in the city, we would definitely be there a lot. Especially enjoyed fries with 3 aiolis and mini-burger trio. Service was extremely friendly and helpful too.

We recently went to FLIGHT to celebrate a birthday (3 couples). We dined from their new menu (such as cheese fondue, cheese plate, goat cheese arugala salad, scallops, seared tuna, fish of the day, and much more). We had a great time ordering various flights of wine. We all found new favorites! The atmosphere is trendy; service friendly and the food and presentation was top notch. We will be back - it's nice to have a "city" style place in the 'burbs!

They could not have been nicer and more helpful. The waiter helped me to discover my new FAVORITE wine on earth "Wither Hills" from New Zealand and I found out I can buy it at a wine store near me for only $17!! The food was excellent too! The best bday celebration a gril could ask for!
